Sensing Energy – Beginners

salemshouse's avatarSalem's House

Energy healing seems to be  a concept that seems to plant many seeds of misinterpretation. Thanks to pop culture we have some pretty grandiose ideas for what energy healing is or could be. A wizard’s wand sending big blue swaths of firefly light that penetrates the chest of the hero, readying her to go kill the dragon. As epic as that would be, magick in movies and TV are visually pumped up for theatrics. In reality, it is more accurately equated to Popeye eating a can of spinach and having super-muscles.

We will dive into the nuance of energy philosophy in subsequent posts. Today I am here to empower you to start working on your subtle energy sense right away.

A few things to know, energy flows in spiral or vibrations. It’s how we hear sound, how light bounces off of things to reflect what we perceive as color, it is our life force…

Tarot Contemplation – Ten of Pentacles

Today, chances are you are feeling like you have everything you need, maybe even everything you want.  Give thanks for the gifts and experiences of you ancestors, or the vast body of knowledge created by the masters in your vacation.  This is the legacy that has brought you to where you are now.  You are taking your place in this lineage.  How do you want to be remembered?  The Ten of Pentacles is about physical security.  It could mean a successful financial venture, an inheritance, or an auspicious partnership.  It is also a card of traditions so could represent a holiday celebration or doing things the way they have always been done.  If you have a question about what you should do, think back to the way your elders would solve the problem.  The warning with this card is that you may be thinking that financial wealth is the only kind of wealth there is, and may be forgetting about spiritual and emotional wealth.  Is there a cost that you have not considered in achieving the comfort of your desire?

Deconstructed Turon Napoleon A La Mode

trishlee75's avatarCook Plant Meditate

I came up with this recipe about a year ago when trying to come up with a menu for a friend’s 40th birthday.  Okay, so the name isn’t very catchy but this dessert is positively addictive! Cake was settled on for the party but I’ve been making this ever since.  The inspiration for this dessert came from two separate sources: 1) my friend Victoria’s mother’s awesome turon; and 2) a dessert from Slanted Door in San Francisco – tapioca pudding with a brown sugar ginger sauce. When I first dreamed it up, the dish came out like this.

But then I wondered – what if I deconstructed it?  I find the ginger sauce combined with the lumpia wrappers and plantains mirror the stickiness of turon perfectly, while the ginger sauce with the ice cream and whipped cream complement each other in a really unexpected way.  Mix it all together in a napoleon…

Brown Sugar Ginger Sauce

IMG_1917

The inspiration for this sauce comes from a dessert The Slanted Door in San Francisco used to sell.  It was a house made tapioca pudding, drizzled in a dark sauce and topped with diced fruit.  It was divine.  I was sad when they quit selling the dessert so I set out to make the sauce on my own.  Warning:  This sauce is highly addictive and, once you try it, you will start looking for things on which to drizzle its dark, golden goodness.

IMG_1914Brown Sugar Ginger Sauce

1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger root (not powdered)
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup molasses
¼ cup orange juice
1 teaspoon butter

Place all ingredients in a medium sized saucepan over medium heat.  Stir to combine well.  Stir occasionally until boiling.  Boil around 30 seconds.  Remove from heat , whisk in butter and let cool.  Drizzle on ice cream, coconut sticky rice, pudding…

Archeology:   Breathtaking Ancient Technology that leaves us Awe Struck [FULL VIDEO] – YouTube

Dating back thousands of years are numerous examples of ancient technology that leave us awe-struck at the lost knowledge of ancient civilizations. They were the result of incredible advances in engineering and innovation as advanced civilizations emerged and came to dominate the ancient world. Here we feature ancient technology history and dozens of amazing artifacts that reflect the brilliance of ancient inventors.

In this video we take a closer look at striking examples of advanced ancient technologies that were far ahead of their times. Some of these sophisticated ancient inventions were later re-invented by our modern society, but not all. There is no doubt ancient people possessed highly advanced knowledge in a number of areas. We also look at objects have become known as out of place artifacts, or “OOPArts” for short. An OOPArt, by definition, is one that contradicts our existing understanding of history. Some of the OOPArts in this video will prove history wrong.

Metaphysics:  3 Ways to Lucid Dream – wikiHow

Lucid dreaming occurs when you’re aware that you’re dreaming, giving you the power to control what happens in the dream. It’s also a skill you can learn! Get into the habit of performing this reality check a couple times a day: close your mouth and pinch your nose. Obviously, you won’t be able to breathe. When you do this in a dream, however, you’ll find that you can do this for an infinite amount of time. Now, fly!

Strawberry “Mini-Moon” Full Moon – June 9, 2017

DON’T FORGET TO WATCH THE STRAWBERRY MINIMOON — June’s full moon is often called the strawberry moon. It got its nickname from the Algonquin Indian tribe because it signaled the best time to pick strawberries. Tonight we will see a special type of full moon that comes only once a year: the minimoon, or a full moon that appears slightly smaller than usual. The natural satellite will be below the horizon for observers in the continental U.S., but early risers in Hawai’i and parts of Alaska will have a chance to see the minimoon at its fullest, weather permitting at 9:09 a.m. EDT (1309 GMT).

Kiho ‘Alu:  Short History of Slack Key Guitar

ORIGINS OF SLACK KEY (Kiho ‘Alu)
There are different theories about the beginnings of slack key guitar in the Islands. Music is one of the most mobile art forms. European sailors around the beginning of the 19th century possibly introduced Hawaiians to the gut string guitar–ancestor of the modern nylon string guitar.

Mexican and Spanish vaqueros (cowboys), hired by King Kamehameha III around 1832 to teach Hawaiians how to handle an overpopulation of cattle, brought over guitars. In the evenings around the campfire, the vaqueros–many of whom worked on the Big Island, especially around the Waimea region–probably played their guitars, often two or more together with one playing lead melody and the other bass and chords. This new instrument would have intrigued the Hawaiian cowboys, or paniolo, who had their own strong, deep-rooted music traditions. Given the long work hours, however, the Hawaiians probably didn’t have time to learn a lot about this new music.

The vaqueros returned to their homelands a few years later and some gave their guitars to the paniolo. Geniuses of assimilation, Hawaiians wove what they had learned of the Mexican and Spanish music into their traditional chants, songs and rhythms and created a new form of music that was completely their own. Unique Hawaiian musical traditions were the dominant force in this guitar music, as they have historically been with other musical influences that have come from the rest of the world. Hawaiian music never stops evolving, and yet it always remains in touch with its deep roots and inspiration …
