Yoga ~ Vinyasa Flow ~ Detoxifying Sequence (60 mins.)

One of Blisstree.com’s all-time favorite workouts!

Yoga is a very relaxing and detoxifying process that you make you feel your best. When you detox the right way it can be the most rewarding experience ever, are you detoxing the right way?

Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that denotes a variety of schools, practices, and schools of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Yoga has dated back pre-Vedic Indian tradition, but it most likely developed around the 5th and 6th centuries. Yoga became popular as a system of physical exercise in the 1980’s.

Yoga physiology describes humans as 3 bodies (physical, subtle, and causal) and 5 sheets (food sheet, pranabreath, mind sheet, intellect and bliss) which covers the energy flowing through the energy channels and concentrated chakras.

This video lasts about one hour and consists of the vinyasa flow that focuses on twists that detoxifies the body and clears anything that is not useful to the body. The video starts with two rounds of kapalbhati which translates to the breath of fire.  So, start this video and begin your detoxification process.

Silence, by Eckhart Tolle

To listen to the silence, wherever you are, is an easy and direct way of becoming present. The transformation of human consciousness is a shift from time to presence, from thinking to pure consciousness. Presence is needed to become aware of the beauty, the majesty, the sacredness of nature – the mind needs to be still.  ~ Eckhart Tolle

Ho’okupu: A Distinction Between Free vs. Freely

maineau

As a Healer, I’ve often been asked, “Hey, you heal for free??” … Wow, folks. No; nothing of value is ever “for free”. Everything is energy, therefore, ho’okupu … the energy exchange that sparks positive results to sprout and grow … is always required. However, what I am able to give, I give freely. What’s the difference, you say? HUGE. Read on.

“Freely vs. Free,” by Thuy Nguyen

Today, after receiving acupuncture during my donation based shift, a patient asked me why I was “giving away” such amazing treatments for free. Don’t you value your skills? She asked. Don’t you want to demand that others value your skills too? Don’t you want them to show you respect by paying you what you are worth? Then she saw my perplexed expression and then added, oh, I see you are trying to fix the world. You are trying to help people in need because they are lacking. That is good of you. She waited for a response but I was speechless. There was so much off in what she said to me that I didn’t know where to start, so instead, I tipped my head slightly as to nod. She smiled, deposited $5 into our money box and left. I’ve been thinking about what she said ever since.

I do what I do and there is no amount of money that anyone could give me to make me feel that it is an adequate match to what I have to offer. Not $5, not $5000. Because what I have to offer is not quantifiable. What I have to offer is myself and it not only reflects in my practice of Chinese Medicine but how I run my business. It is what has evolved over my 16 years of thinking about medicine and health and how I would like to affect and be affected by the world I live in. It is a reflection of my understanding of health and our connections with one another.

My practice reflects my faith in abundance, trust, and connection that is possible in the world that we live in and my faith in the profound healing capabilities of Chinese Medicine. I am taken by its simplicity, its gentleness, its humbleness, its accessibility, its profound depth, its quiet healing. I am heartened (especially in this day and age) to be able provide an environment where 5 complete strangers can lie down side by side to nap, relax and heal together, no strings attached. And I am amazed that day after day, people do come to do just that. That is trust. That is healing.

From this understanding, value and worth take on very different perspectives. It is only because of my understanding of the profound value of what I do that I offer it up freely. Not for free, freely. I am not doing this to fix a broken world or to give to people in need. The world is not broken, what people may or may not need is beyond my comprehension. I am simply doing this because it is the most natural expression of who I’ve become and of who I am.

“The reason why the universe is eternal is that it does not live for itself; it gives life to others as it transforms.”

– Lao Tzu

Energy goes by many names. In traditional Chinease medicine, it’s called qi (pronounced “CHEE”). In the yogic tradition, it’s prana, or life force. In Native American cultures, it’s spirit. Energy is the essence of who you are, not just something you use up. We can channel energy, and thus, can never run out of it. Think of energy like it is electricity, when we run low on it, all we need to do is to “plug in” to a greater source than ourselves. Call it God, or the Divine, or nature or our universe.

As you learn to meditate, you’ll find it easier to connect with this greater source of life and energy outside yourself. After all, you are not a finite being – you are larger then the body that contains you. In a sense, you not only have access to an infinite supply of energy – you are energy.

Today, and next week, we give you the final two parts of this audio meditation series, each one intended to give you a themed meditation experience. This meditation creates the feeling of what it might be like to travel space as one of the Voyagers might hear as they experienced the vast expanses of space.

Full Moon of February 2015

Grandtrines

The full moon of February 2015 has several interesting patterns.  Top of the list is the focused yod:

2015-02 February Full Moon Focused Yod (Basic)

We note that the focal point of the yod is the Moon with the Sun in direct opposition (i.e. it is a full moon).  One leg ends in Chiron (the wounded healer) and the other leg ends in Pluto (death and radical transformation).  Remember, one leg of a yod is not necessarily “better” than the other, and we are typically dissatisfied with the choice we made in hindsight.  The wounded healer might sound better than death, but a lingering misery may not be preferable to a quick end.  We will all have to make choices at this time, and do remember that “choosing not to choose” is a choice itself.  (It is the choice to abdicate.)

Seeds for Meditation

“To attain enlightenment you have to see your nature. unless you see your nature, all this talk about cause and effect is nonsense. Buddhas don’t practice nonsense. A Buddha is free of karma, free of cause and effect. to say he attains anything at all is to slander a Buddha.  What could he possibly attain? Even focusing on a mind, a power, an understanding or a view is impossible for a Buddha.  A Buddha isn’t one-sided. The nature of his No-Mind is basically empty, neither pure nor impure. He’s free of practice and realization. He’s free of cause and effect. A Buddha doesn’t observe precepts.  A Buddha doesn’t do good or evil.  A Buddha isn’t energetic or lazy.  A Buddha is someone who does nothing, someone who can’t even focus his mind on a Buddha.”

Why Ugly Cake Tastes Better – The Devil [‘s Food] is In The Details

Amelia and I bake a lot of cakes.  Mostly special requests from family members or more decorative cakes for special occasions.  But after all of the fancy decorations come off it’s all just the same basic stuff on the inside – cake.  But why did the “ugly” cake you cooked last week to “just eat” (which you didn’t even bother taking out of the 9×13 pan it was cooked in) taste so much better than the fancy decorative cake you ate at your cousin’s wedding last month?  One word – refrigeration.  I generally dislike refrigeration of all baked goods – breads, biscuits, tortillas, even pizza crust.  Refrigeration does something to an otherwise delicate structure that simply reheating to room temperature can’t correct.  But when it comes to cake decorating, especially with buttercream, refrigeration is key to help solidify the buttercream details.  Without it, on a hot summer day, an otherwise…

If you think back to your own PERSONAL HEALTH HISTORY, I am confident you can pinpoint a time in your life when the weight just started to “creep” up on you. Whether it was an emotional or stressful trigger that started the number on the scale to climb or the hectic pace of life which caused health to take a back burner position – one day you wake up and realize just do not feel like the vibrant, fit person you were meant to be. The good news is, the body has an amazing forgiving and restorative nature – given the proper foods, nutrients and conditions, you can lose the weight and feel like your “best” self within a short time.

Just For Today

This week lend a sympathetic ear: practice empathy with a friend, an acquaintance or even a stranger. Focus on the communication of empathy, along with the ability to understand another’s emotions, in the hope that it can facilitate clarity in experiences and more compassionate encounters in all relationships.

Cancer $creening FAIL

Should we be looking for disease in people who don’t have any symptoms? A large new study indicates the answer is NO.

Subject to an increasingly expansive disease screening programs, unsuspecting healthy individuals are being transformed into patients every day. Massive ‘awareness raising’ campaigns funded by industries that either cause disease by creating and promoting harmful products, or make profit from the diseases by diagnosing and treating them, dominate mainstream culture, with their tentacles reaching deep into both private and public (i.e. governmental) sectors. Think of KFC’s now defunct “Buckets for the Cure” campaign, or Susan G. Komen’s stamp of approval on a Fracking Drill bit supposed to help find a cure. Or, how about our very own Whitehouse saturating itself with Pink light during Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

What do these ‘awareness raising’ efforts have in common? They almost all funnel the miseducated masses into fear-driven screening programs that promise to ‘save lives’ by ‘detecting disease early’ instead of focusing on removing and/or lessening the preventable causes of disease. Why not employ real prevention and focus on root cause resolution, which is to say, dietary changes, detoxification, and various modifiable lifestyle factors such as stress reduction — none of which, incidentally, require pharmaceutical intervention. In the case of cancer, the primary focus should be on removing exposure to cancer-causing agents (carcinogens).

But cancer awareness raising campaigns intentionally avoud the term “carcinogen,” as removal of these primary drivers were an irrelevant consideration. The problem is that conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation are themselves carcinogenic, and should be avoided in principle by anyone looking to prevent, treat and/or reverse cancer, undermining the cancer industry’s main cash cow for the past half century. Additionally, if you focus on identifying and removing the cause, you can’t get people to throw billions of dollars into fund-raising campaigns by promising a cure that only exists as a possibility in the future, and requires ceaseless cash offerings and supplication to the biotech, pharmaceutical and medical ‘Gods.’

aloha_friday_pa'uridersPa’u riders (pronounced Pah-oo riders)[1], also called paʻu riders or pa-u riders (and sometimes written as pāʻū riders), are Hawai’ian women who wear long, colorful skirts (Hawaiian: pāʻū) and characteristically ride horseback astride, rather than sidesaddle.  This equestrian tradition dates to the early 19th century, when horses were introduced to Hawai’i and Aliʻi women dressed up to ride for formal occasions. It declined after the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawai’i, but was revitalized in the early 20th century with the establishment of formal riding organizations.  Today, pa’u riders participate in Kamehameha Day floral parades and other parades and festivals throughout the islands.

We note that this is a complex and active New Moon with many aspects.  The Moon/Sun conjoin at 0 Aquarius, a particularly potent point that follows similar new moons in recent months.  Before we go further, let us say this: this is one New Moon you will “feel.”  It will not come and go unnoticed.  At least one major shift will happen in your life near this date.

Picking “where to begin” is difficult, but we start by noting a “hard rectangle” pattern:

Pluto, Venus, Jupiter, and Hygeia are involved.  While each contributes, Pluto is particularly important because of its tight square with the north node (fate, karma), to be discussed next.
