Pāli Word a Day for August 04, 2018 — tarati — to cross [a river], to surmount, overcome [the great flood of life, desire, ignorance], to get to the other side, to cross over, as in crossing the ocean of suffering

Na tena paṇḍito hoti
yāvatā bahu bhāsati.
Khemī, averī abhayo
‘‘paṇḍito’’ti pavuccati.

One is not wise
because one speaks much.
One who is peaceable, friendly and fearless
is called “wise”.
