Daily Words of the Buddha for May 28, 2019

Pāli Word a Day for May 28, 2019 — upekkhā — equanimity, evenness of mind, a state of inner equipoise that cannot be upset by gain and loss, honor and dishonor, praise and blame, pleasure and pain

Jayaṃ veraṃ pasavati.
Dukkhaṃ seti parājito.
Upasanto sukhaṃ seti,
hitvā jayaparājayaṃ.

Winning gives birth to hostility.
Losing, one lies down in pain.
The calmed lie down with ease,
having set winning & losing aside.

Dhammapada 15.20
Translated from Pāli by Thanissaro Bhikkhu
