Atītaṃ nānvāgameyya,
nappaṭikaṅkhe anāgataṃ;
yadatītaṃ pahīnaṃ taṃ,
appattañca anāgataṃ

The past should not be followed after,
and the future not desired;
what is past is dead and gone,
and the future is yet to come.
