Becoming a shaman transcends profession and passion. Regardless of their many names around the Philippines  (Babaylan, Katalonan, Diwatera, Tambalan etc.) the way of the shaman is more than just the superficial old tribe men or women chanting languages beyond our comprehension.  They transcend the schizoid that throws themselves on the ground while under extreme fits of seizure that synchronize with the beat of gongs and drums and the image of the wild looking worshipper of crude, wooden statues.
