Homebrewed Mead: Traditional Yule

After adding everything together, and before the cloth on top!

When my apprentice, now mistress of herbs in her own right, and I first made mead, it wasn’t nearly that much of a trial as some authors seemed to imply.  I personally think it’s easier than canning, which frankly makes me nervous. You almost can’t screw up making mead, and it’s one of the most sacred and magical tasks we do here in the Medieval Still Room that connects us to our ancestors.  My husband pronounced it as the best concoction to come out of the brewing room yet!

Losses of soil carbon under global warming might equal US emissions: Global study finds losses will be greatest in world’s coldest places — ScienceDaily

For decades, scientists have speculated that rising global temperatures might alter the ability of soils to store carbon, potentially releasing huge amounts of carbon into the atmosphere and triggering runaway climate change. It turns out scientists might have been looking in the wrong places.

Patent US6630507 – Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants – Google Patents

Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention. A particular disclosed class of cannabinoids useful as neuroprotective antioxidants is formula (I) wherein the R group is independently selected from the group consisting of H, CH3, and COCH3.
