Morning Meditation, by James Allen

By curbing his tongue, a man gains possession of his mind. The fool babbles, gossips, argues, and bandies words. He glories in the fact that he has had the last word, and has silenced his opponent. He exults in his own folly, is ever on the defensive, and wastes his energies in unprofitable channels. He is like a gardener who continues to dig and plant in unproductive soil. The wise man avoids idle words, gossips, vain argument, and self-defence. He is content to appear defeated; rejoices when he is defeated; knowing that, having found and removed another error in himself, he has thereby become wiser. Blessed is he who does not strive for the last word. — James Allen

Reflections …

The true silence is not merely a silent tongue; it is a silent mind. To merely hold one’s tongue, and yet to carry about a disturbed and rankling mind, is no remedy for weakness, and no source of power.  Silentness, to be powerful, must envelop the whole mind, must permeate every chamber of the heart; it must be the silence of peace.  To this broad, deep, abiding silentness a man attains only in the measure that he conquers himself.  — James Allen

Tarot Contemplation – Death

Today may be more about “out with the old and in with the new” as the Death card implies a new beginning. It doesn’t mean you have to throw out all of the old, as you can often salvage something from the past to carry forward into your future.

For Love:  Your relationship may be going through some changes which can lead to transformation. Whether you wish for these changes to be positive or negative is in your hands. One thing is certain though, it will not be boring.

For Work:  There may be some variety around for you today when it comes to work or you may have a desire to change your job. Whatever you are thinking about doing should work out well for you as the Death card often means change which is usually for the better.

Cancer Moon is in a mood today 6-24-2017

Diane L's avatarLibra Seeking Balance

The Cancer Moon has a decent morning but by midday that changes. It starts when she conjoins contentious Mars in Cancer while squaring Jupiter in Libra. This combination is just about guaranteed to make mountains out of molehills in a matter of minutes. Family gatherings could be particularly fraught since no one knows how to make us lose our cool faster than family. A mid-late afternoon sextile to Neptune in Pisces will help cool things down, but when the Cancer Moon opposes Pluto in Capricorn this evening the disagreements could re-emerge. Cancer is a cardinal sign and as such will take action if pushed. Please be respectful of other people’s opinions and practice kindness towards everyone. 🌠☽♋🌠

The predawn trine between Venus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn will help us sort out relationship issues pertaining to finances, so that’s a plus today. However the waxing square between Mars in…

Pāli Word a Day for June 24, 2017 — maddava — mild, gentle, soft

Maraṇenapi taṃ pahīyati
yaṃ puriso mamidanti maññati.
Etampi viditvā paṇḍito,
na mamattāya
nametha māmako.

At death a person abandons
what one construes as mine.
Realizing this, the wise
shouldn’t incline
to be devoted to mine.

Natural Bug Repellent

theheathenhomesteader's avatarThe Heathen Homesteader

In a group I help run I posted about a natural bug (and arachnid) repellent I was making for our porch and patio today. It was essentially half my essential oils and a stick of cinnamon I soaked in a half and half vinegar/water mix. There are many different oils and herbs one could procure to help ward off a variety of bugs without chemicals.

Some of these include:

*Lavender

*Citronella

*Lemongrass

*Tea Tree

*Eucalyptus

*Mint (any kind)

*Marigold

*Geranium

*Cedarwood

*Rosemary

*Citrus – Lemon, Lime, Orange, Grapefruit, etc.

*Cinnamon

*etc.

I usually do a mix of what I have on hand to ward off different types of bugs but if you have a specific pest you can easily find specific herb/s for them.

After I have made my repellent I either add a cup to a gallon of water and wash the porch with it or I put it…

New Moon in Cancer

The Moon is hiding within the Light of the Sun…a holographic lover in the sky!  The New Moon in Cancer is the Moody Moon…and is all about feeling! It can be like a day at the beach with loved ones.  It can be like a crab hiding beneath a rock needing its space.  Cancer the Crab can be very sensitive and can get a little crabby if the heat is on too strong.  Remember that the shell of a crab is tough on the outside but very soft on the inside.  Being a Water Sign, we can easily be washed away by the tide of strong emotion .  Moon and Mood are synonymous and come and go like the tides.  Sometimes we can feel dark and empty like the New Moon…Sometimes we can feel light and fulfilled like the Full Moon.  Our…

Reflections

“Do you wish to free yourself of mental and emotional knots and become one with the Tao? If so, there are two paths available to you. The first is the path of acceptance. Affirm everyone and everything. Freely extend your goodwill and virtue in every direction, regardless of circumstances. Embrace all things as part of the Harmonious Oneness, and then you will begin to perceive it. The second path is that of denial. Recognize that everything you see and think is a falsehood, an illusion, a veil over the truth. Peel all the veils away, and you will arrive at the Oneness. Though these paths are entirely different, they will deliver you to the same place: spontaneous awareness of the Great Oneness. Once you arrive there, remember: it isn’t necessary to struggle to maintain unity with it. All you have to do is participate in it.”

~ Lao Tzu
