Origami ~ Box Within A Box

Detailed instructions here!
Large boxes created using 12″x12″ heavy paper.  Detailed instructions here!

This origami project requires only one piece of paper (use pretty Washi woven papers or stiffer 60# papers).  Creates a small box within a box with an attached lid.  Perfect for giving small gifts, keeping a programmed crystal inside, and the like.  Use 15cm x 15cm (12″ x 12″) to create a medium-larger size box.

Idea:  You can lightly clear-lacquer your finished piece made from fancy Japanese Washi paper and make it your Reiki Box or other kind of special-intentions container.

Enjoy!

Sijo Bruce Lee, Founder, Jeet Kun Do System of Self Defense

This past weekend, in Seattle, was Bruce Lee Weekend and thousands of martial artists and friends showed up to pay their respects and honor his memory. For me, I saw many pictures of Bruce Lee in our Reyes Family photo albums taken in the ’60s with my father-in-law, Master Aleju C. Reyes, of the original hard-style Kajukenbo school known as Reyes Kenpo Karate in California.

“A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.” ~ Bruce Lee

Seeds for Meditation ~ On Awakening, by Jorge Enriquez

HPS and Grandmaster Jorge Enriquez amidst the grand columns of the Temple of Karnak, Egypt, September 3, 2014
HP and Grandmaster Jorge Enriquez amidst the grand columns of the Temple of Karnak, Egypt, September 3, 2014

In procession we walked through the Temple Karnak, all of us in white from head to toe. In silence we walked past columns and statues, silent witnesses of times past and present. As one by one we walked through the gates of Aten and climbed above the temples mounds to find a place to position ourselves in wait for the morning sun to rise. As Ra peeked over the horizon, we were greeted with light. The essence of the Bornless One blazed upon us all. His essence washed upon us as each in turn reflected His light back to the universe. In unison we praised.

This journey has awakened within me the memory of my existence, my secret within. my Light within. My reason. My lifes journey.

Just For Today ~ Live For This Moment (song and lyrics by Phillip Fraser)

floatiesClick on the link below to see Phil singing this song for YOU!

Grandmaster Phillip Fraser ~ “Live For This Moment”

live for this moment
before the moment passes
before the moments gone

i seek to walk in the light
carry the banner to shatter the darkness
shadow he walks beside
lightens the load when heavy of conscious
choose what to do with your life
look deep inside and you might discover
the holiest secrets reside
just wake up and…

live for this moment,
before the moment passes
before the moments gone
before the moment passes
before the moments gone
gone, gone, gone gone gone gone

i seek to walk in the light
carry that weight when no one will bother
to take the time looking for signs
forgot to remember to answer the questions
what should i do with my life
do i care if i rise, care if i fall, care if i try, care if i die, care if i live, care if i fly
how could it be that the harder i search, the fewer i find with spirits aligned
living a life, not of my design
learned that in time it’ll all be alright
sometimes the only one willing to put up a fight
and if thats what destined, then ill earn my own lessons

the prize in the pieces, the silence that seizes your breathe
when you live in regret.
the spirit that takes you when you surrender and you’ve forgotten all of your stress
this second to notice, just savor the moments cuz when it is gone there will be nothing left
if this is the road I’m sent down to travel you now on this mission i’ll give it my best
give it my best, til the day that i rest, or the day that i’m gone, remembered in song
maybe its all just a moment in time, frozen in time for those listening (listen-on)
still i have my healthy doubts,
but one thing i know,
if we just could let go, we might just…

live for this moment,
before the moment passes
before the moments gone
before the moment passes
before the moments gone

live for this moment,
before the moment passes
before the moments gone
before the moment passes

Before this moment passes
before this moment passes

Seeds for Meditation ~ On Knowing

_elale_kule

There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic.
~ Anaïs Nin

… And yet, as that mosaic becomes complete the enlightenment process would be as if it were being experienced instantaneously.  It all comes down to that moment when you make that connection with that innermost part of your Self.  To place yourself in the front row, before your God … it’s all about that moment of communion.  And, once had, it is never lost.

Chinese Acupuncture Therapy ~ Moxibustion

MOXA_POLES_MILD

MOXIBUSTION THERAPY

Whenever I administer either a Reiki treatment or perform reflexology on a client, oftentimes the only acoutrements I use are Moxa sticks and my personal blend of massage oil. Moxibustion therapy was first introduced to me decades ago by my allergist, who became a licensed Acupuncturist at the University of Beijing. It is simple and surprisingly effective treatment for everything from allergies to arthritis, and the positive feedback I’ve received from administering these treatments are the reasons I maintain this practice.

I use the same brand Moxa stick as pictured here. You will find them and similar products at your local Chinese herbal shop, or online. They are inexpensive, so be sure to buy them in bulk because you will find you will be using them daily once you get used to how they work on the body.

Moxibustion is a very old, traditional Chinese medicine therapy employed by acupuncturists. It plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Mongolia. The artemisia leaf or mugwort (known as ai ye or “doctor’s grass”) is the herb used in moxibustion. It is believed to emit yang energy when burnt. Since ancient times it has been burnt to disinfect and keep sterile the air to prevent the spread of infectious disease in hospitals and patient treatment centers.

An important attribute of artemisia leaf (ai ye) is its ability to penetrate moisture and dampness. In ancient times, Chinese armies used this knowledge to find underground springs during times of war, when constant movement made easy sources of water unavailable. Soldiers would burn argy wormwood and wait for the smoke to settle. Where the smoke accumulated they would dig a well for water. Chinese medicine also takes advantage of this special property to help dispel dampness from the body. Herbalists associate dampness with decay and toxin retention because it is extremely conductive to fungi growth.

The effects of acupuncture and moxibustion are unique because they do not add any additional elements in to the body. Instead, moxibustion simply re-adjusts the body’s natural mechanisms to effectively raise their functioning ability by promoting the flow of qi, viz., by warming the meridian channels with the moxi stick, you are supplementing qi and activating blood circulation, thereby relieving the cold, which alleviates pain and promotes vital functions to cure deficiency. Because moxi treatments do not introduce foreign elements in to the body, they are the purest and most natural forms of treatment.

Suppliers usually age the mugwort and grind it up to a fluff; practitioners burn the fluff or process it further into a cigar-shaped stick. They can use it indirectly, with acupuncture needles, or burn it on the patient’s skin.

moxibustion client

How to Use:

Ignite a moxa stick at one end and place it two to three centimeters away over the treatment site to bring a mild warmth to the local place, but not burning, for some fifteen minutes until the skin becomes slightly red. You can either manually hold the stick, or use smaller sticks or discs that are inserted into wooden applicator boxes that either sit atop the skin or are strapped onto the client.

Contraindications of Moxibustion:

1. Excess heat syndrome, or Yin deficiency syndrome, with heat signs are contraindicated to moxibustion.

2. Scarring moxibustion is prohibited on face and head, and the places closest to the large blood vessels.

3. Pregnant women are not administered moxibustion in the abdomen and lumbosacral regions.

Energywork ~ Balancing and Fortifying Our Energy System

basics

Do you carry a general tiredness or get overwhelmed more quickly than ever before? Is it challenging to focus or to remain still? Are there abrupt mood changes, a sense of paranoia, disconnectedness, brain frazzle? Do you feel swollen, inflamed or with unexplained heating up?

We are all enduring immense cellular transformation that is speeding up our entire atomic structure.  This quickening is affecting every system in our body, being especially noticeable in the nerves, the hormonal pathways and the immune system. The body is working overtime to both clear releasing toxicities while transitioning the biological system to a brand new frequency attunement.

The signposts are indeed indicating greater levels of planetary upheaval, potentially causing more pressure upon our sensitive, changing bodies. The more that I talk with other light servers, I am discovering that many of us are with body pains, tiredness and rising conditions of all types and scale.

It is important to remember that our entire cellular structure is changing as new electromagnetic impulses are constantly entering. As we increase our vibration, we simultaneously detoxify from the old framework, no matter how advanced our conscious understandings are.

This purification deepens as we go and is a natural part of the experience. With this comes periods of fatigue as our body is constantly recalibrating, while making its gradual transition into a more efficient blueprint and upgraded frequency.

There is critical need to give the body our highest priority to bring as much ease as possible to our biological shift. We can greatly assist it along by paying very close attention to its changing requirements.

This includes new choices in food, different supplementation, always more rest, more play and simple beingness, which is a constant doorknocker for me as well.

There are really no hard and fast rules anymore as to what brings increased energy vibration. It’s happening to everyone and now, it’s merely a matter of keeping our physical vehicles healthy enough to keep up. So much depends upon the personal blueprint and our ability to listen to what the body wants.

For example, having been a vegetarian for years, recently my body wanted some crabmeat and dairy to supply it with certain amino acids and protein sequences. It’s been super strange for me psychologically, but my body is feeling in much greater vitality.

Take Precious Care of our Biological Upgrade

With a much greater amplitude of energy running through the body, the nervous system and its neurological activity have a tendency to get overloaded as these higher frequencies of light try to incorporate.

If proper integration is not taken to rest the body from the outer “hustle bustle”, neural circuitry can get majorly stressed and potentially fracture causing a cascade of internal challenges.

Just like a car, any weakening in the engine starts really subtle. The messages, however, are always there and it takes a constantly “tuning in” to our body partner.

Don’t forget too, the ego mind complex is disintegrating and our thoughts are adjusting to brand new perceptions of thinking. This can also cause subtle imbalances affecting the brain waves. It is important to keep ourselves in check, monitoring and adjusting as we go, so that the mind does not get stuck in looping feedback.

The endocrine system, which regulates our physiological functioning through hormones, is currently undergoing a huge upgrade as well. It may experience tremendous energy overloads as it constantly attempts to maintain a state of homeostasis in the body’s metamorphic processes.

Glandular activity can be erratic, causing various effects in body chemicals and triggering internal agitation. If we are not fully grounded in our body, this can result in adrenal and mental burn out, frazzled energy, mind confusion and a long list of reactive emotional states. (More belly laughing is a must.)

Build Immunity to Release new DNA

Un-integrated energy overload weakens the body’s entire system of immunity, which sets up an environment for increased infection and invading germs. This causes unneeded adversity such as more colds, feeling run down, viral conditions and inflammatory responses, to name just a few.  Strong immune systems help activate and release new DNA encodement.

Consider that the stem cells that form our blood are born and reach maturity in the bone marrow. Once these cells are mature, they are released into the blood stream where they travel throughout the body preventing infection and supplying needed oxygen and life force energy.

We house a lot of new DNA encodement inside these cells deep in the marrow. If we have healthy immune systems, we have healthy bone marrow and our blood is fortified with more light expanding programs to positively affect all other systems.

This is why it is absolutely crucial that we spend more time building and amplifying our entire system of immunity and to keep it invincibly strong.

STUDENT GUIDELINES

What We Teach

Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila’s curriculum is grounded in the learning of our basic Reiki healing. In our rigorous Level 1class, you will learn how to visualize and manifest basic healing results in the Halau’s style, as well as the healing terminology that goes with it. In our Level 2 class and above, you will learn intermediate Reiki scanning techniques and will be introduced to the three major symbols involved in basic Reiki, in concert with an introduction to crystals and grid work. Knowledge of the Hawaiian and Japanese languages is not mandatory for enrollment in The Halau; however, during the course of your studies, it will be necessary for you to learn to sing or chant (kotodama) the sounds assigned to specific energies and ritual evocations.

Performance skills are incorporated into the teaching, and your training will be based on helping you develop into a skilled Healing Practitioner.  Performing healings is an essential aspect of our curriculum:  they provide the means by which we achieve our mandate as an educational institution.  However, there is never any guarantee that as a Halau student you will be included in any healing session.  Participation in healings is based upon need and skills as determined by the Instructor.

Be advised that preparation for a ritual healing session may require changes in the class schedule, including temporary cessation of regular classes.

Class Representatives (Group Classes only)

Each class has a representative who will provide students with information regarding upcoming events and performances. Be sure that you introduce yourself to your class rep, and that they have a way in which to get in contact with you (e-mail and telephone, as well as address). It is your responsibility to regularly check your e-mail or the AHA website for updated class and event information.

How We Behave

The origins of energy healing are lost in the distant past. The ways in which Reiki is taught and lived have changed dramatically over the years; the ways in which traditional Japanese Reiki is taught differs radically from the American Reiki techniques Mrs. Takata brought to the Western world, viz., the Hawaiian islands. Despite those changes, there are still rules of behavior that govern how we are to behave in the Halau, in our classes, and towards our kumu la’au lapa’au and their kokua (assistants). Following are the formal Policies and Procedures of Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila:

Non-Discrimination Policy

Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the Halau. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national, and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, employment, and other Halau administered programs.

Personal Behavior Policies

Personal hygiene and grooming are very important in metaphysical practice.  All garments should be clean.  It is recommended that you take a ritual bath prior to attending class or receiving an attunement.

Attire for attendance in all classes is the Halau uniform:   royal blue T-shirts for both kane (male) and wahine (female).  Kane and Wahine practitioners recommended to wear white loose-fitting shorts or pants.  Master-Teachers may wear sky blue robes.  Grandmasters shall wear royal blue robes.

Kane (men) and Wahine (women) with long hair must have their hair up neatly in a bun, pulled back or braided.

Please be courteous to the class. If you are running late, are ill, or intend to not attend class, please inform your class representative before class starts.

If you have plans and know in advance that you are going to miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out what was taught when you come to the next class, and to then learn it.

You may ask questions, but please do not disrupt the class. Ask at an appropriate moment, preferably during a break.

If you visit on-site with an interest to join Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila, we welcome you to sit and observe one class.  If you return the following week to observe again, you will be considered a walk-in, and will be required to pay the $25.00 walk-in session fee.

Parents of students are welcome to stay and watch. If young siblings or other family members are brought to class, we do ask that they sit quietly and watch without disrupting the class.

In addition to the formal Policies above, there are also important halau protocol which every Practitioner should know of and observe:
Always show respect to your instructors and kokua (assistants).  Instructors may be addressed by the acceptable honorific or title of “Uncle” or “Auntie”, however, Off-Island students might prefer to communicate with instructors on a first-name basis or by title, as indicated by the instructor.

At the beginning of class, if there is time, all students should help clean the Halau by vacuuming the floor, preparing the Temple area and making sure everything is clean and tidy. At the end of class, all students should help to close the Halau by clearing away leftover water bottles and trash. Restroom trash containers should be emptied at the end of each class.

When your Kumu is speaking or showing an example, please keep quiet and pay attention. Listen and learn from what is being said or demonstrated. You will benefit from paying attention.

Think before asking questions. Use your own eyes and ears first; learn by observing. Learn and practice what you are taught so that you can keep up with your class.  You are expected to memorize kotodama, symbols and new vocabulary by your next class.

Always take off your shoes before you enter the heart of the Halau (it’s OK to leave shoes just inside the doorway). When you go outside, put your shoes on so that you don’t bring dirt back into the Halau.

Beepers and cell phones should be turned off unless you are expecting an emergency call (if so, please explain to the kokua before class).

Handle your practitioner attire with respect: Robes and Halau uniform are considered to be sacred garments, and should not be treated casually or carelessly.

As you continue your training, you will often hear the phrase, “ai ha‘a,” which literally means, “bend down” or “go lower.” However, “ai ha‘a” also means to “be humble,” which is a trademark of healing and an important precept defining “Aloha”. Please remember to always respect your “Healer elders,” which means not only your teachers and their assistants, but also your practitioner sisters and brothers who have more experience in this Halau than you do.

Kauila

When you join a new class, show respect for your classmates by remaining at the back of the class. The front row positions belong to the more experienced practitioners; wait to take a front row position until you are asked to by an assistant or your Instructor.
If you visit a class that is not your own (for example, to review your basics), remain in the back of the class. Keep in mind that you are a guest when you are not in your own class.

Try to remember to ask the kokua to help you, and not your classmates. It is the responsibility of the kokua to help you, and they will be sure to show you the correct movements.

All students/haumana start in the Basics class and will be placed in an appropriate class based on skill level as determined by the Instructor.  Please be aware that ongoing attendance is necessary to be successful in any class, as techniques are learned in progression.
It is not appropriate to share what is learned at Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila with non-Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila members, including answering questions about practitioner technique, without permission.

And just a few final points to remember:

The Halau is not a playground; children should be discouraged from running, yelling, or playing inside the Halau.

Practice, practice, practice! Some people find it helpful to (audio) record the class so that they can practice at home; others make note of steps and choreography. Whatever you need to help you learn is recommended. Practice is fundamental: as Kumu Lana will tell you, “If you only practice a couple of hours a week, you will practice like a ‘couple-of-hours-a-week’ healer.” Keep in mind your reasons for wanting to learn Healing, and apply those reasons as part of the discipline of learning.

Lastly, if you eventually decide that Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila is not for you, please continue to show your respect for the Halau and its Instructors:  (1) let your Instructor know you have decided to leave and why; (2) let your Instructor know where you intend to go, and if you choose to study at another school; (3) please let your new Instructor know where you’ve been studying and why you left.

Mahalo nui loa … thank you very much … for reading through Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila’s Student Guidelines.

We hope you will find them helpful, and we hope you enjoy being a student of Halau ‘Aha Hui Lanakila!
