Ah, the indolent days of Summer.  Feeling a little bored?  You may be tempted to say or do things to shake things and people up just for a little excitement.  Rethink this impulse and find a better use of your energy.  Excitement can be created.  You are in an excellent energy to support you when you have somewhat tedious work to get accomplished.  The Page can give you focus, backbone and the wherewithal to stick with a task that is not necessarily glamorous or fun.  Don’t try to sidestep efforts, or you will fall on your face.  At work, there’s more work to be done than time to do it.  Don’t despair.  Just roll up your sleeves and get busy.  The Page points to financial rewards for good, old-fashioned hard work.  This is not a time to gamble or to be unrealistic.  Put an honest appraisal on the value of your skills and efforts.  If you aren’t being fairly compensated, now might be the time to make a change.  Invest, don’t spend.  Choose traditional, safe investments for now.  Spiritually, now would be a good time to examine what excites you.  What do you enjoy?  What interests you?  What would you like to explore?  Get off the beaten path and try new things.  Create your own energy and enthusiasm.

Once again, we pass through another portal of Change.  Death doesn’t necessarily mean, or even usually indicates, physical death (that’s what the 3 of Swords is for …).  In fact, generally, it is considered irresponsible for readers to predict physical death, as we are creatures with free will and as such … things are not written in stone.  This card simply indicates transformation and change.  This is definitely a time of deep transformation, likely to be both inner and outwardly in your life.  Situations, things and people that you have counted on or gotten used to may no longer be available to you in quite the same way as they once were, and this transition can be difficult for some people.  The more accepting you can be of change of all sorts during this time, and the less you try to control, the better and the more comfortable this time will be for you.  Often, what you need to let go of is some sort of self-limiting belief or attitude.  Sometimes, we just can’t see how our attitudes are hurting us, and when that is true, this time period can be a wake-up call.  The energy of this time is not just change or destruction, it is change or destruction followed by renewal.  Even though one door may have closed, another is opening.  Will you have the courage to step through?  Cultivate a positive attitude.  Know that even if you are in the midst of a dark night of the soul that this too shall pass.  Remember our chant:  He loli oli, ke ‘alo a’e, he paio koho … Change is inevitable:  struggle is an option.  Allow yourself to feel what you feel, but don’t wallow in pain or sorrow.  If you need help, ask.  There is always someone near that cares about you … whether you realize it or not.

The Emperor shows us that domination of the mind over the heart is sometimes not wanted, but in some cases, it is necessary and even welcomed.  When hard choices must be made, it’s important to maintain your concentration and focus.  This is something this time period will make easy for you to do.  Enjoy the assertiveness and confidence that this self-control and focus brings.  Forge ahead and do what you know is best.  If you can master yourself, then you ought to experience lesser problems mastering the world and all the things in it.  A kind, older gentleman may cross your path … a work colleague, Dad or a father-type figure.  Perhaps he is interested in you romantically.  If not, don’t rule him out because of his age.  This man feels like he rules with an iron fist, which can be frustrating at times.  But, his intention is to help you see that rules have their place and their reasons.  You will benefit from this guidance now.  Above all else, this man teaches, even unknowingly, the benefits of structure and logic ruling over the emotions and lesser desires.  Be sure to take time out for yourself to honor your need for spiritual growth.  Allow your Right Brain (intution) to have input in greater measure, rather than your usual Left Brain activities (logic, reason, order) … which is counterintuitive to the Emperor and a skill that requires greater discipline to master.

Don’t be afraid to make a leap if it’s in your best interests.  Bravery is once again called for to make the next strides forward.  You know what has to be done … so go to it!  We’ve been at a similar juncture after we’ve had opportunities to contemplate what aspects of living make us happy … we continue to experience opportunities to rebalance and refocus on the relationships and situations that matter to each of us … and now, once again, we know what we want at this new level and its time to JUST DO IT.  The Universe is on your side … CARPE DIEM!

The theme today is partnerships and balance.  Partnerships of all , actually, ought to be going quite well these days.  How committed are you to them?  How committed are they to you?  Is there balance and equality in these relationships?  Open communications, or opening communications, is key.  Spiritually, you are on a more balanced approach on your path.  If it’s working for you, stick with it even though your methodology might not be understood by others.

Someone is behaving with less than ethical intentions.  Actions of prying into someone’s life where you don’t belong.  If you sense that someone is spying on you, you may be right.  If you are tempted to dig through someone else’s life (excluding parents looking after their children for the most part), resist the impulse.  Everyone deserves privacy.  If you are involved in any sort of competition this month (formal or informal), you will want to keep a close eye out for cheating of any form.  Be aware and make sure you are doing things the right way so you have nothing to worry about, even if someone is out to get you.  Your employer is looking at your work and conduct very closely.  Keep your nose to the grindstone and make sure your work is above reproach.  This is not a time for games of chance or taking risks.  Don’t sacrifice your integrity just for a buck.  Be very cautious about religious or spiritual gurus or leaders that require your money in exchange for so-called enlightenment.  Be careful with new-found spiritual friends.

This Knight is a bearer of optimistic messages.  Things are going to be going well.  You are likely to be feeling charged up and ready for action.  Good news (particularly related to matters of the heart) is likely to be headed your way soon.  Work projects are likely to move ahead in a positive way, sooner than you’re expecting.  Be proud of your accomplishments and contributions.  If you have questions about love, this card means a positive/affirmative answer.  Singles are about to meet someone who will sweep them off their feet.  Couples are solidifying their commitment, each to his/her other.  Be open to exploring your own feelings.  Good news is also coming relative to your finances.  Figure out where you are to the penny; it’s not as bad as you think.  You are entering new realms of spiritual exploration, so be open to receiving new information and new experiences that will broaden your horizons.

But, of course, you felt The Sun come out today!  This is a sign that soon you are likely to find yourself feeling more free than you have in a while, perhaps years.  This is a great time to take a vacation (remember, yesterday’s Six of Swords counselled now is a good time to travel) and to experience different things.  The Sun is about vitality, freedom, joy and self-expression.  Things in general are very likely going well for you.  However, even though finances are likely to be in good shape, that does not mean you lose focus on what is truly important in life.  Materiality and money are not high on that list.  This is a great time to socialize and meet new people.  Get out and about and enjoy under The Sun.  This is a time when you are very likely to be able to see the truth with a capital “T” about life; which is that there is a great deal of beauty, joy and happiness to be found in this life, if you are looking hard enough and in the right places.  Spread this very important message.  This is a great time to try different spiritual approaches on for size to see if any of them work for you.

When the Six of Swords appears, it’s a sign that it’s time to travel … physically and metaphorically.  Time for a change in where you are inwardly, which is usually change for the better, whether inward or external.  Think about where you want to be.  Generally, the Number 6 shows at least a slight reduction in stress and strain.  Things may not be perfect, but they are going to be better than they may have been in the recent past.  Take this time to get your head above water and decide where you’re going from here.  Take your beloved on a trip, or maybe to a nearby park for a picnic.  Even a short break or change of scenery will be helpful.  This doesn’t have to cost money.  This card can also signify that your financial tide is turning for the better, if you’ve been struggling, or for the worse, if you’ve been riding high for some time.  If it’s the former, you might treat yourself to something small, but don’t get carried away:  use the influx of money wisely.  If it’s the latter, batten down the hatches.  Now is not the time to gamble, in either situation.  Some spiritual answers that have eluded you for some time may come in to your awareness suddenly.  This is sometimes tied to a change in routine; travel, or experimenting with different spiritual traditions.  Pay attention to your dreams.  They often show you things you miss during your waking hours.

He’s come back ’round again!  As we told you last time, the King of Cups speaks of balanced male and feminine energy.  He represents kindness and compassion.  Nurture yourself and allow others to nurture you.  A male boss or coworker is very much “on your team”.  Don’t hesitate to ask him for support if you need it.  Things are improving at work.  Pay attention to what you are bringing into your body.  Pay attention to your surroundings.  Give with kindness and compassion.

The Hermit is an extremely spiritual card and often has to do with institutions and large organizations — everything from bank to the entire Christian Church.  This card indicates spirituality even if you are an atheist.  It’s in whatever sense the word “spirit” makes sense to you, even if for you “spirit” equates to “emotion”.  You may be trying hard to figure out what the “truth” is about someone (or some matter), don’t feel that you have to do it all on your own.  Ask for help if you need it to gain different perspectives, more information and the like.  Just like with the Strength card, you may even more so be in the frame of mind that you need some time alone — don’t be afraid to take it.  Even if it’s just a five-minute walk aound the house so that you can clear your head.  This is also very much a card about “trying very hard to do the right thing.”  Just make sure that “doing the right thing” includes doing what is right for you personally, and not just worrying about the wants and needs of others.  Ritual of any sort will be helpful to you health-wise (and this includes activities like reading a book for an hour on Saturday).  Any health problems could be drawing your attention to a problem that is not in your body so much as in your life … for example, a bad back could indicate that you are carrying too much metaphorically speaking.  Take care of yourself.  It’s very likely that at this time a person will come into your life who is like a mentor or teacher, even if they don’t teach you directly.  You will still learn from them on several levels.  Honor the need that you may be having to withdraw to a degree from ordinary life — it won’t last forever.  You will soon be feeling much more social, so don’t push yourself now to be around a lot of people unless it is absolutely necessary.  You will likely emerge from this month feeling refreshed and renewed, particularly on a spiritual level.

The energies of Strength are building ever stronger within you today.  When this card appears, you are likely to find that in any sort of competitive situation that you come out on top.  Things should be going very well, you ought to be feeling good and projects ought to be moving right along.  You may still have regular moments of self-doubt, unfortunately, but now is the time to feel the fear and do it anyway.  Don’t hesitate to make where you stand clear to people.  Your thinking is clear and you are likely to help someone out by spelling things out for them.  This card can indicate that a change is coming — a positive change — in your personal or business life.  This card also points toward being independent and thinking for yourself.  By facing your fears and turning them to your advantage, you grow even stronger and are ready to face the next obstacle in your path.  Indeed, there can be no courage without fear to inspire it.  That fear does not need to be your master any more.  If an opportunity calls you, cast away your doubt and go for it with courage in your hands.  If you feel that now is the time to take a step towards your dreams, throw hesitation to the winds and let nothing stand in your way.  In short, whatever your clear desires are, go for them!

You will choose to leave a situation that is no longer working for you — whether that’s a relationship, a job, or living arrangement, trust yourself.  Instead of this coming out of the blue, or someone or something leaving you, it usually means that you are the one who will make this choice.  Very often one door has to close behind you before the next door in front of you can fully open.  Your current job may no longer be appropriate for you.  You may be feeling bored, or under appreciated.  Think long and hard about which is best; trying to fix things where you are, or moving on.  Either option can work for you.  One thing is for sure, though:  things are not going to change for the better on their own.  If you’re dissatisfied, get specific on what changes would need to happen for you to be happier where you are.  If it’s unlikely or impossible to change those things, then get moving on finding yourself a new position.  You can do it.  You may decide that a long term relationship is going to end.  If you are sure about this, don’t wait for the right time, as there will never be a good time to tell someone that the relationship needs to be over.  Don’t jump headlong into a new relationship.  Give yourself some time and space to be on your own, first.  If you are utterly miserable in your current line of work, don’t let the security of a regular paycheck tie you forever to the job.  Rather, look before you leap before getting out.  Health insurance, particularly in the USA, is a huge concern.  However, with foresight and planning, and attention to detail, you can make it happen.  Just be sure your plans are well laid and comprehensive.  Money isn’t everything.  Stress may be getting to you and causing health problems.  Be sure that you are paying adequate attention to diet, exercise and sleep.  Keep a positive attitude.  You may need time alone.  Take it.  You will find depth and wisdom in solitude and in listening to the still, small voice inside.

Today’s focus is on mind over matter … and a reminder to focus on what you do want, rather than what you don’t want in your life.  Its main point is that you have the ability to harness your thoughts and to use them for your — and everyone else’s — highest good.  Not only do you have the ability, you have the responsibility.  Conquer your fears. Control your impulses.  Do not lose patience with yourself or what you are doing.  Meditation now is key.  Contemplate and spend the time alone, even if you are in a committed relationship and have kids.  This is no time to spend in preoccupation and fear.  Of paramount importance today is for you to keep your head on straight.  This is a good time to correct bad habits if you need to do so in order to protect your health.  To be truly strong, you must pay attention to and develop each leg of the triad we are made from:  body, mind and spirit.  Be sure you are spending time focusing on each of the three.  The Universe is reminding you today that you are strong and probably stronger than you think.  Yes, it can get better!
