A solar infusion is when you place a herb into a menstruum and allow the warmth of the sun’s rays extract the plant medicine into. This can be done with oil, alcohol, vinegar, or a glycerine. Many people believe that the energy of the sun helps to extract more medicinal properties from the plant than heat alone!
Today, I decided to make a Calendula oil via solar infusion using organic dried Calendula blossoms and organic avocado oil.
I chose to use avocado oil over olive oil (mostly because it is what I had on hand) but also because many of the olive oils on the market are fraudulent. I also prefer avocado oil because it is really great for dry and itchy skin. It also can help shield the skin from ultraviolet light, preventing sun damage.
