Even though experts constantly talk about it, many people are still unaware of the fact that stress is one of the leading causes of all diseases and health conditions. It is a really dangerous thing, especially when manifested by some vague symptoms which make it extremely difficult to detect. Yet, remember that it is of high […]
Yule (the Winter Solstice) is right around the corner!
So how will you be celebrating? There are less than three weeks left before Yule (the Winter Solstice)! This is going out a week early because for many of us, this is a Sabbat that takes a little more preparation (and if you are buying gifts, the HP Gift List here might help). Whether that’s due to cultural inertia, or kid’s expectations, the importance of Stars and this Sabbat, or whatever, it’s a big deal in our family. We’ve already started the Solstice doors and decorating. If you have been doing your Winter Solstice traditions for years, if you are just starting your family and are currently building the traditions which will bring the Universe to your kids, or anything in between, I hope that the traditions and practices here are found to be useful, inspiring, or just comforting.
For me, this Sabbat was my gateway – the first holiday I…

Much of the healing that has been done over these past months on a deeper internal level can now be brought out into the light. Hauʻōli lā Pōʻakāhi

Aloha kākahiāka a ma Hauʻōli lā Pōʻakāhi ōukōu. Ī lā nāni nōu. Ō kā maluhia nō me ʻoe.
Good morning and Happy Monday, everyone. Have a beautiful day! Peace be with you.
We are all so blessed to share this precious gift called LIFE! Ōla ī kā makana ma ke Ākūa, life is a gift from God! As we head into 2018, always remember the gift we have been given; that we are blessed in so many ways and that the greatest gift of all is Aloha (Love).
Wishing all of the Ohana a very peaceful and blessed day! Ē pili mau nā pōʻmaikāʻi ʻia ʻoe – May blessings ever be with you!
Monday Motivation

Have you ever noticed that when you’re worried about something, all you can think about are your problems? Then sometimes, out of the blue, someone comes in with a fresh perspective and your “unsolvable” problems suddenly have DOZENS of solutions.
The good news is this: you can be one of those “fresh perspective” people.
This may come as a surprise to some people but we get to choose what kind of world we want to live in! You can focus on finding problems and live in the realm of “something is wrong,” OR you can focus on solutions and live in the realm of “infinite possibilities.”
People who live in Possibility-ville are known (and sought out) as problem solvers and visionaries. They still have troubles like anyone else but they find their way out of those troubles a whole lot faster and can easily help others do the same. The most fun part of focusing on possibilities is that they are truly infinite…so you have permission to get silly and play!
You can start throwing the most ridiculous, fantastic, “left-field” ideas on the table (using your childlike imagination), and one of them will inevitably spark a new idea that will give you the very answers you need.
Ho’omana’o – ‘ŌLELO NO’EAU

He lawa‘i a no ke kai papa u, he pokole ke aho; he lawa‘i a no ke kai hohonu he loa ke aho.
A fisherman of the shallow sea uses only a short line; a fisherman of the deep has a long line (A person whose knowledge is shallow does not have much, but he whose knowledge is great, does)
This means that you will reach only as far as you aim and prepare yourself to reach.
In order for changes to be made with regards to land rights, housing education etc. We must become well informed like the Lawai’i or Fisherman because they are not just traits of a well skilled practioner but an icon to whom we should all emulate.

Candy Cane Fudge
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me….
Well to be honest he gave me his rendition of the snoring symphony and a 4 AM wake up call. But I love him nonetheless!
Merry First Day of Blogmas! Christmas is only 24 days away!
What’s on the baking agenda for today? Extremely easy to make and super delicious Candy Cane Fudge. While I am not normally a fan of store-bought fudge or the usual flavours (Maple Butter Fudge – YUCK!), this recipe is perfect for a the last-minute baker and it’s not too sweet.

Many festive confections can be temperamental and require you to have a master’s degree in candy making. Never mind the fact that it can become a little overwhelming when attempting to focus on making use of the candy thermometer while stirring your concoction, keeping little fingers away from the stove top and…

Yule Perfume Oil

Longest Night (Winter Solstice or Yule for many of you), is a hopeful time of year, and a time of looking forward to beginnings. It is the darkest time of our year, but comes with the promise of renewal and warmth.
Every year, right about this time, I love to make a perfume blend to wear for celebrations. It’s easy to make, with ingredients you can get at most “health food” stores (or at Whole Foods).
For this perfume oil you will need the following items:
1 1/3-ounce roller bottle
eye dropper
jojoba oil (you can also use a quality olive oil or sunflower oil as carrier oils)
2 drops pine essential oil
1 drop ginger essential oil
1 drop cinnamon essential oil
1 drop sandalwood essential oil
Put all essential oils in the roller bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with your carrier oil.
Blessings From The Hearth.
Longest Night (Yule) Incense

During this winter holyday season I always make a change in my incense offering to Hestia. I love making my own herbal incenses, and this particular blend has easily obtained materials. You will burn this on a coal tab, so be sure you have a heat proof dish that has sand or salt in the bottom.
For this incense you will need:
2 parts frankincense tears (resin)
2 parts pine needles
1 part cedar
1 part juniper berries.
I like to grind these up in a mortar and pestle that I keep specifically for the purpose of grinding herbs and resins. Use this is for your daily rituals during this time period.
Blessings from the Hearth.

Vegan Foodstyles: Filipino Giniling

This dish has many names around the world, and many variations. In Latin countries its called Picadillo; in the Philippines its called Giniling. I’ve seen it soupy or the drier way I make it. You’ll see in my notes below, the different options, such as adding red bell peppers or golden raisins. I left out the bell peppers because I’m not a fan. When I’m making savory empanadas, then I’ll add the raisins to the dish.
VEGAN PICADILLO {aka Giniling – Filipino Food}
Serves 4 to 6
Ingredients
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
2 large red potatoes, cubed
-
1 medium carrot, peeled and cubed
-
1 small onion, diced
-
2 garlic cloves, minced
-
1 (12 ounce) package Veggie Protein Crumbles (I used Lightlife’s Smart Ground)
-
3 tablespoons tomato paste
-
1/2 cup water
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-
pinch red pepper flakes
-
1/2 cup frozen green peas
Directions
-
Heat oil in a large non-stick pan with high sides over medium heat.
-
Add the potatoes and carrots, cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until the potatoes are slightly browned. Stir occassionally.
-
Add the onions and minced garlic, cook for another minute.
-
Add the veggie protein crumbles, break apart and stir.
-
Add the tomato paste, water, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes.
-
Mix well, and cook for another 5 minutes. Stir occassionally.
-
Turn off heat. Add the frozen green peas and mix well.
-
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Enjoy!
Notes
-
Keep the skin on the potatoes.
-
The veggie protein crumbles are already cooked – time saver!
-
I always have the 4.5 ounce tube of tomato paste in the fridge at all times for dishes like this. You can also buy the small can, and freeze the rest.
-
You can add 1/2 of a red bell pepper, diced, if you like; when you add the veggie protein crumbles. But I’m not a fan of bell peppers, so I left it out. Thank goodness so is our friend who I made this dish for.
-
You can also add a 1/2 cup of golden raisins after you add the tomato paste, etc. My mother doesn’t consider this recipe complete without raisins. I chose to leave this out because I’m not making empanadas, and this recipe is the base recipe for empanada filling. (That’s for another recipe.)
-
Do not cook the green peas. Add the frozen peas as they are, to keep its vibrant color. Once mixed in, the dish will take care of the peas.
As We Approach the Winter Solstice
If you are like me, December can be overwhelming…. As we approach the Winter Solstice, the gift of sunlight is hard to come by, causing light deprivation, circadian disturbances, and shifts in melatonin regulation. The subsequent effects on mood, behavior and health can be difficult to deal with, especially since the reins of life’s expectations don’t loosen to accommodate these seasonal shifts. Instead, the holidays bring their own unique stresses and can add to a sense of depletion and anxiety.
In my case, it’s the same each year. The effects of light deprivation sneak up on me, much in the way that seasonal allergies seem to. I start feeling sluggish and apathetic. My eyes take on a dull ache and my skin and hair feel like straw. My sleep is less rejuvenating and I feel starved for more of it. When the morning alarm rings, it takes me by surprise…

It’s hard to believe the year is over already. The last month goes out with a big bang.
December opens with a beautifully intense dreamy soul transforming JUPITER NEPTUNE trine from SCORPIO to PISCES @ 11 degrees.
Sexual soulful and highly addictive! Deeper feelings emerge. Power-hungry secrets of the sexual religious and financial ones will emerge from this transit. This can also be a super scam like Bitcoin bursting its bubble. Use your spiritual x-ray vision to see through anything. It’s Hopeful and delusional. Beware of projecting onto others-power sex-glamour. Addictive energies are super high.

Planetary Traffic – December 2017
December 3rd – Full Moon in Taurus in the Rohini Nakshatra.
In November, the full Moon was in Aries and we noticed a Venus-Mars theme that continued to show up through the month. This theme continues with this full Moon, where the Sun is placed in the Mars ruled Scorpio opposing the Moon, placed in Venusian sign of Taurus.
Venus and Mars are placed in mutual reception of one another’s signs, also called parivartana yoga which creates a strong bond between the involved planets. Mars is transiting the Venusian sign of Libra from November 29th till January 16th, 2018. Venus is transiting the Mars ruled sign of Scorpio November 26th till December 20th. When Venus moves to Sagittarius on December 20th, this exchange between Mars and Venus comes to an end and a mutual exchange between Jupiter and Venus begins.
When the Moon reaches 18 degrees Taurus on the December 3rd…

“Let The Sun Shine in at Christmas” by Gary Suttle
This article was first published at the Pantheist Association for Nature website.
“Our ancestors worshipped the Sun, and they were not that foolish.
It makes sense to revere the Sun and the stars, for we are their children. ”— Carl Sagan
Pantheists celebrate the winter solstice. Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. The Sun of Life and the Son of God. What is the true significance of Christmas, and how can we celebrate this joyful season in keeping with its meaning?
