Good day, my friends, and a happy Aloha Thursday to you all. Have a blessed day. Peace be with you.
As David Bowie well knows, sound and vision are a wonderful pairing. Now, Sony is following in his footsteps: its latest LED bulb is also a Bluetooth speaker.
The 360-lumen bulb pairs with a smartphone via Bluetooth allowing you to adjust volume or brightness. It also comes with a dedicated remote control which can be paired using NFC. Sony claims that it allows you to play music where in the past it’s been difficult to install speakers. If anyone’s ever tried to install speakers directly into a light fitting, do speak up.
More seriously, this is a neat idea—with two caveats. The first is sound quality: small speakers can sound good, but they don’t always, and until you hear what this one sounds like you may want to keep your money in your wallet. Which leads to the second: the bulb will initially cost in the region of $200. Ouch.
The bulb is available in Japan from May 23rd and it’s not clear when it will arrive in the U.S.. But until it does, just look at the fun you could have with one of these things according to Sony’s press shots. [Sony via Verge]

I didn’t initially mean to make biscuits this small, I just happened to grab the wrong sized ring and decided to go with it. But now I absolutely love these tiny little biscuits! They are perfect to serve with butter and fresh jam at breakfast or as the perfect soup topping. Or, if you are looking for the mini version of some of your favorite dishes, how about mini breakfast slider sandwiches or mini biscuits and gravy. I even joked to Amelia that this would be the next supermodel fad – 100 calorie mini sandwiches.
Trish’s Mini Biscuits

2 tablespoons baking powder
10 tablespoons cold butter, cut into pieces
1 cup whole milk

THE NEEDLE
You are the Creator’s needle with which is sewn the many patches of Creation into a single garment of glory.
At one end, the needle must be hard and sharp, to squeeze through the ordeal. But the other end must have a vacant hollow, a nothingness with which to hold the thread.
With the world, be firm and sharp. Within, feel how small you are before the Infinite.
We find five (!) quincunx on Mother’s Day besides this notorious one which perfects in the early morning hours. The ultimate aspect of misunderstanding and miscommunication, it colors the day of this holiday:

So try to avoid taking too seriously anything anyone says today, whether “good” or “bad.” Chances are good that any misunderstandings will “come to a head” in a few days on May 14th or May 15th.

Do An Email Fast:
Just twenty years ago, people enjoyed the novelty of checking their email. These days, the average person spends 13 hours a week on email– using it for an array of tasks, from personal correspondence with long-distance friends and family, to immediate work tasks and far-reaching newsletters, reminder notifications, paperless receipts, and beyond. The innovation of email has evolved into a treadmill of communication– with smartphones and tablets that make it easy for our inbox to be the last thing we see before going to sleep and the first thing we look at upon waking up.
Today, be mindful of the effect of email on your brain. Put up an away responder, step away from the inbox, and spend time soaking in the people and situations in your immediate vicinity. Notice how an email-free day impacts your way of thinking, feeling, and working. Explore ways to rearrange your relationship to email and prioritize in-person presence.
This is a fundraising (GoFundMe campaign) to raise funds and awareness about the situation that is NASA’s proposed build-out of a Thirty-Meter Telescope (“TMT”) in conjunction with the University of Hawai’i on Mauna Kea Volcano … a site sacred to the Hawai’ian people. The film is entitled, “Why The Mountain.”
Please support this effort … because it’s not just about the Mountain, it’s about the Land and the reality that the real universe to be explored is contained WITHIN THE HEART. If you’ve been reading this website, you already know what is meant by this statement. This is Hawai’ian … it is all about Aloha Spirit.

This is the world’s first solar powered 3D printed Stirling engine. Let me repeat. A 3D solar powered Stirling engine! Now that is cool off grid tech. This little ingenious device isn’t going to power your home just yet, but it is a proof of concept, and it works. The mirrors reflect the Sun’s energy onto the central area which heats up causing expansion and as the air cools it contracts. This 3d printed concept was created by German aeronautical engineer Andreas Haeuser.

By Steven Bancarz | Part of “waking up” means learning to recognize what type of personality you have. Learning your emotional, physical, and psychological tendencies can help you understand yourself better and prevent suffering in your life. More and more, people are beginning to realize that they fit into the category of “empaths”.
An empath is someone who has the ability to apprehend the mental and emotional states of other people. These people have a high social-intelligence and are very good at helping others through their problems. Unfortunately, in doing so, empaths tend to take on a heavy emotional burden since they end of feeling what others around them feel.
Being able to recognize that you are sensitive to energy is important, because so often in life we tend to think what we are feeling has arisen organically within us. What if some of our thoughts, emotions, and feelings are a result of the people in the same room as us? Or people we are close to in life?
Here are 8 common traits that empaths and energetically sensitive people have.

Humanize An Automated Task:
These days, rather than waiting in line at the grocery store, you can opt for the self-check-out machine. Rather than digging up cash and idling in line to hand it over to the toll booth operator, you can get an electronic toll device, like FasTrak or EZ-Pass, and enjoy the privilege of driving straight through the toll. More and more, the automation of labor is swiftly shifting our lives towards greater efficiency. But what happens to the people whose work are outsourced to machines? While the convenience of automated tasks may help move things along, how does it impact the multifaceted network of variously-skilled workers who comprise our economy? In the pursuit of convenience, what elements of humanity slip through the cracks?
Today, step off auto-pilot to re-engage with an automated task. Greet the grocery clerk or toll booth operator with a smile. Turn off the timed sprinklers and enjoy the warm sun on your skin as you physically water your lawn. Notice if and how it shifts your body and mind.

Studies have found that the super herb thyme essential oil potently kills lung and breast cancer cells.
The essential oil of common thyme (Thymus vulgaris) which usually known as “oil of thyme” contains 20-54% thymol. Thymol belongs to a naturally occurring class of compounds known as “biocides”. Biocides are substances that can destroy harmful organisms. When thymus is used alongside other biocides, such as carvacrol, it has strong antimicrobial attibutes. Scientists tested thyme for its antibacterial activities in vitro toxicology against three human cancer cell lines. What they found is that thyme kills lung cancer cells, oral and ovarian cancer (i).
Thyme is a native to the Mediterranean, and was originally given the name “thyme” in Greece, they still use it in their cooking mixed with olive oil. Oil from the common herb thyme was discovered to kill up to 97% of human lung cancer cells. Recent research has shown that if you mix thyme and olive oil it will enhance the availability of hydroxytyrosol, olive oil’s most potent anti-cancer compound. Could this be the reason why Greeks have about half the rate of cancer compared to the rest of USA and the Europe. Thyme essential oil, has also been used in Ayurvedic and traditional medicine due to its strong antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal (killing yeast like Candida) properties. Also, oncologist researchers at Celal Bayar University in Turkey carried out a study to find what effect Wild Thyme (Thymus serpyllum) might have on breast cancer cells. They looked at the effects of Wild Thyme on cell death and epigenetic events in breast cancer cells. Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene expression caused by mechanisms that do not involve alterations in DNA sequence. They reported in the journal Nutrition and Cancer that Wild Thyme caused cell death in the breast cancer cells. The study authors concluded that Wild Thyme “may be a promising candidate in the development of novel therapeutic drugs for breast cancer treatment.” (ii)

Fresh thyme also makes a great addition to a healthy diet focused on organic fruits, vegetables and whole foods and can be used as a herb in cooking or simply prepared as a tea.

Ho‘okuleana – it’s an action word; it means, “to take responsibility.” Hawai’ians view it as our individual and collective responsibility to:
Participate … rather than ignore;
Prevent … rather than react and
Preserve … rather than degrade.
This is not really a program, it is an attitude we want people to share. The world is changing; let’s work together to change it for the better.
“You can’t reread a phone call.” — Liz Carpenter
Handwrite A Letter To A Dear One:
There are boundless ways to correspond with loved ones. Whether by phone or social media, email or video call, a 30-minute catch-up with an old friend has become as effortless as a few taps of fingers on keypad. Yet, such ease and convenience leaves little room for the quality and care that gets conveyed through an artfully compiled package, or a keepsake letter that conjures up snapshots of one’s week or month or year.
Today, take the time to indulge in the slow, classic art of pen on paper: hand-write a letter to someone you hold dear. Relish the reflective process and stir your creative muscles with a doodle here or a brush of poetry there. Or, for an alternative twist, write a letter to your future self. Years from now, you or your friend may stumble upon the very letter you so lovingly crafted today– a provocative reminder of the progression of life, and powerful artifact of the impact of one’s life on another.
“In solitude, the mind gains strength and learns to lean upon itself.” — Laurence Sterne
Spend Time In Solitude:
As we move through each day, thousands of messages soak into our consciousness. From advertisements and educational articles, to news stories and music, today’s high speed pace of life makes it difficult to discern what’s worth paying attention to. Take time today to tune into the gift of your own presence. Spend time in solitude. Go for a walk, write in a journal, meditate or just sit quietly and notice yourself and the surroundings where you are.
Prioritizing time alone carves out space in your mind and heart to tap into those deeper truths of who you are and how you want to live. It offers an opportunity to think creatively, and for your own subconscious to unwind new possibilities and out-of-the-box solutions for those challenging problems that seemed locked in stalemate.
As you embark on your minutes or hours or day of solitude, pay attention to the insights– large or small– that rise to the surface. They may be the keys that unlock doors of possibility in your life.
The natural tendency is to treat matters of the spirit as luxury items—sort of an appendage to life.
Eating, sleeping, making money—these things are given priority and the time dedicated to them is sacrosanct.
But prayer, meditation and study fit in only when you feel like it, and are pushed aside on the slightest whim.
You’ve got to make your priorities faithful to your inner self. You’ve got to ask yourself if this is what your life is all about.
Set a schedule for spiritually enriching activities.
Be as tough with that schedule as a workaholic would be with his business.
