Double Yod Key and other patterns of late April and early May of 2015

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

The days from April 26th through May 1st of 2015 are pattern rich.  We will likely also discuss more patterns that will occur in early May in another post that covers patterns after May 1st.

We begin with the Double Yod Key (DYK) that starts April 26th and continues through May 1st. This is one of the “longer acting” patterns of this period (we are looking at primarily April 28th through May 1st with some patterns extending on each side of that range).  It colors all of the other patterns we will subsequently discuss.

DYK 2015-04-26 to 05-01

That pattern tells us that, once again, we are in a pattern of making important decisions. However, as we will note momentarily, this period is about more than decisions. This period is also about action.

A Hele is in play from April 27th to April 29th, and that tells us that people…

Crepes
1 3/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon rum, cognac or vanilla extract
Two eggs +2 egg yolks
2/3 cup flour
2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter

Whisk together milk eggs, egg yolks, sugar, salt and rum/cognac/vanilla. Sift flour into the wet mixture. Whisk until smooth then whisk in melted, unsalted butter.

Pre-heat a skillet or comal to medium heat. Pour a little bit of the batter onto the comal or pan and distribute batter evenly by swirling pan around. Cook on one side for around a minute to a minute and a half or until the under side begins to brown. Carefully flip crepe over and cook for another minute to minute and a half.

The 21-Day Technology Challenge ~ Days 1 through 5

For 21 days, participants do a small act daily, and share stories and photos with the community. One small step at a time, we change ourselves and the world.  We have been participating for the past several days … Today is Day 5.  Join us now and let’s complete this technology challenge together … unplug and Live Aloha now.

DAY 1:  Take Mindful Screen Breaks

Screens have a way of hijacking our time without our knowledge or conscious consent. When we login to our computers we can get sucked into a digital world and forget to come up for air. The body and mind are revitalized by mindful breaks. Today, whether you are tackling a stream of emails, editing a voluminous document or creating a PowerPoint presentation, make sure to take regular screen breaks. Set an alarm for every hour, and when it rings, make a practice of turning away from your screen for a few minutes. Maybe you’ll do a mindfulness exercise, connect with someone, or reorganize your desk. Perhaps do some deep stretches, or take a quick walk around the block … or a refreshing swim! At the end of the day, notice how your energy and productivity levels are impacted by this simple practice of taking conscious breaks.

DAY 2:  Experiment With Single-Tasking

Our waking lives play out on various platforms – we interact with each other in-person, over the phone, on instant messaging, video chats, email and more. Such layers of activity often leave us shuttling between different conversations and contexts. Often times we try and tackle them simultaneously. We eat lunch at our desk, while reading emails. We talk on the phone while driving, and send text messages in the middle of dinner. Multi-tasking has become commonplace in our day-to-day lives. Yet not only does it dilute the quality of our presence, it can often hamper efficiency and compromise our brain’s ability to commit what we are learning to long-term memory. Today, make an effort to do one thing at a time. Eat breakfast at the table. Focus on the road while driving. Have only one internet browser open at a time. Not only will your brain breathe a sigh of relief, but your productivity may receive a boost from your efforts!

DAY 3:  Enjoy a device-free meal.

“In our fast-forward culture, we have lost the art of eating well.” — Carl Honore

Enjoy A Device-Free Meal – In January of this year, Twitter released an analysis of tweets made during the last week of December, examining the phrases most linked with “New Year’s resolutions.” Alongside “workout” and “quit smoking” came the phrase “unplug.” Many of us have the desire to healthily separate ourselves from our devices and social media platforms. But we need that extra nudge to make it happen. For inspiration, consider this whimsical equation, and its ring of truth: Constant use of digital devices + dining = digital indigestion. Today, try to eat at least one meal with your family, friends or colleagues, with every nearby appliance, including the TV on the wall, turned off. Practice being fully present and tuned in to the meal, the conversation, and the people you might be with. Notice how the quality of attention you bring to the table enhances your experience.

DAY 4:  Pay Attention To Your Posture.

“A good stance and posture reflect a proper state of mind.” — Morihei Ueshiba

Pay Attention To Your Posture – Whether our minds are deep in inbox-response mode, single-pointedly typing away a looming deadline, or attentively laying out colors for a new graphic, it’s easy to forget about our bodies. Until hours, days, or weeks later, when a wrist starts to throb or a spot on the back aches or our neck stiffens and we wonder why. Our posture during the many hours spent on our devices, has a tremendous impact on the wellbeing of our muscles, joints and long-term physical health. Today, tune into your posture. Are your eyes resting comfortably on the screen, or is your neck craning up or down? Do your elbows fall naturally by your side as you type on the keyboard, or are they strained at an angle with your shoulders hunched up? A simple adjustment, like placing your monitor or laptop on top of a book, tilting your keyboard on a slanted platform, or adjusting the height of your chair can make a world of difference.

DAY 5 ~ Create A Gadget-Free Zone!

“The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” — Hans Hofmann

Create A Gadget-Free Zone – When Steve Jobs was asked if his children loved the iPad, he replied, “They haven’t used it. We limit how much technology our kids use it at home.” The creators of our most popular devices are aware of the dangers that come with them. Take a cue from Jobs today. Set aside a gadget-free zone at home. Maybe it’s the dining room, family room or your bedroom. Setting these intentional boundaries will have an effect not just on you, but all those you share your space with. Whether parents, partners or children, the people we live alongside are often our greatest mirrors. Our own mindfulness with gadgets and attentive presence can ripple out in profound and wonderful ways to those we care about.

Join us tomorrow and let’s take back control and give technology a definite, but more limited place in our lives.  Mālama kekahi ī kekahi … Let’s take care of each other, today and always.  Aloha!

Huber Learning Trinagle April 22 to May 11, 2015i

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

Solar Fire 8’s electional search identifies a “Huber Learning Triangle 2” that is in play from April 22 to May 11, 2015.  This pattern involves Pluto, Uranus, and Mars, and we think that this may bring us some difficult “lessons” in this period involving power and violence:

Huber Learning Triangle 2 April 22

On the more positive side, this pattern may give some of us the focus and energy to accomplish some important project.  Just remember the lesson of the magic genie: make certain what you ask for is what you really want!

This will tend to affect Capricorn (especially early January), Aries (especially near April 10th), and Taurus (near May 5th) the most.  Opposite points in Cancer (near July 1), Libra (near October 1), and Scorpio (near November 3rd) will also feel this more than others.

Maybe the best explanation of what these lessons are about might be Whole Astrology’s recent…

Pistachio-Orange Blossom Cake

Our monthly Sunday Family Dinners have kind of morphed into Saturday Family Dinners. It may not have the same ring to it but after an evening of consuming tons of goodness, the last thing I want to do is to drive back home to San Diego to make it to work the next morning.

March 2013 Family Dinner

So last weekend, we held our monthly Fam-Din at my seester’s casa where we jumped into a Middle Eastern inspired menu. The seesters made Roasted Garlic Hummus, Cucumber-Chickpea-Feta Salad, Shish Tawook and Basmati Rice.

March 2013 Family Dinner

Shish Tawook are chicken skewers that are marinated in yogurt, citrus, spices and then grilled. My seester served them with toum which was a super garlicky sauce that she was obsessed with. Truth be told, I had no idea what toum was before this weekend but it was fantastic over the chicken. As for the salad, it went really…

Seeds for Meditation

flowers_calla_lily_sunrise

Now the benefit is to walk with like-minded people, fellow pilgrims. Move away from those who suck your energy by raising doubts, fears, or envy.

The ego, the critic, the inner judge, will try to sneak in while you are traveling on your path and tell you that you need to be reasonable, clever, suspicious, and, above all, to look good in others’ eyes. It would have you create imaginary problems that would cause you to incorrectly evaluate the situation before you. The crux of the teaching in this hexagram is to remain aware and fully present. This will be found in stillness.

Consciously let go of trying to get approval from others. This is the ego trying to interfere and keep you from fully appreciating the beauty and the myriad gifts of life. As you slow down, and allow your childlike innocense to appreciate the beauty all around you, there will emerge a strength that you have not known before. You will find strength wrought not from pain or angst, but from peace, laughter, and joy.

OUR LATEST EGGSPERIMENT – DYING EASTER EGGS-BROWN VS. WHITE

CPM's avatarCook Plant Meditate

3-30-15 055

Easter is just around the corner and millions of people will be taking to the local mega marts for gobs of eggs and egg dying kits.  But what about those of us who almost exclusively eat brown eggs?  Can they still be colored just as beautifully?  To find the answer we started with our usual egg supplier – The Hen Pen in Napa, CA.  We normally only receive brown eggs in our order but somehow our order got mixed up with another and voila! we ended up with some white eggs too.  YAY!  No shopping at the mega mart for white eggs to complete the eggsperiment!

3-30-15 033

And so we gathered our professional egg testers at our friends’ house and let the eggsperiment begin.  The egg dye kits come with 5 different colors so we used 5 white eggs and 5 brown eggs and let them soak in the dye for…

You Cannot Capture Silence, It Captures You ~ Richard Rohr

full-moon-451605_640

For me, the two correctives of all spirituality are silence and service. If either of those is missing, it is not true, healthy spirituality. Without silence, we do not really experience our experiences. We may serve others and have many experiences, but without silence, nothing has the power to change us, to awaken us, to give us that joy that the world cannot give, as Jesus says. And without clear acts of free service (needing no payback of any sort, even “heaven”), a person’s spiritual authenticity can and should be called into question. Divine Love always needs to and must overflow!

To live in this primordial, foundational being itself, which I am calling silence, creates a kind of sympathetic resonance with what is right in front of us. Without it, we just react instead of respond. Without some degree of silence, we are never living, never tasting, as there is not much capacity to enjoy, appreciate, or taste the moment as it purely is. The opposite of contemplation is not action, it is reaction. We must wait for pure action, which always proceeds from a contemplativesilence in which we are able to listen anew to truth and to what is really happening. Such spiritual silence demands a deep presence to oneself in the moment, which will probably have the same practical effect as presence to God.

You do not hear silence (precisely!), but it is that by which you do hear. You cannot capture silence. It captures you. Silence is a kind of thinking that is not thinking. It’s a kind of thinking which mostly sees(contemplata). Silence, then, is an alternative consciousness. It is a form of intelligence, a form of knowing beyond bodily reacting or emotion. It is a form of knowing beyond mental analysis, which is what we usually call thinking. All of the great world religions at the higher levels(mystical) discovered that our tyrannical mode of everyday thinking (which is largely compulsive, brain-driven, and based on early patterning and conditioning) has to be relativized and limited, or it takes over, to the loss of our primal being and identity in ourselves. I used to think that mysticism was the eventual fruit of years of contemplation; now I think it all begins with one clear moment of mystic consciousness, which then becomes the constant “spring inside us, welling up unto eternal life”.

2015-03 Late March Patterns

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

After all of the excitement about the recent Solar Eclipse and Vernal Equinox on the same day, anything else seems anticlimactic.  But, as you may have heard on late night television advertisements: “But, wait, there’s more….”

Many of these patterns flow into the early April patterns that precede the Lunar Eclipse in April.  We will address those in a separate post.  We begin with a powerful yod, accompanied by a lesser yod, that dominates the sky from March 22nd through March 31st.  We present beginning and ending charts for this period and note that others may prefer to cast variants of these charts at other times and in other locales:

Mercury Direct Station February 11, 2015

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

No doubt some of you are wondering about the details of the Mercury Direct Station of February 11, 2015.  We have much to say about it because a number of patterns are in play, and the maps are interesting.  This will be one of our longer entries, and we will be developing it over the course of Feb 9 / 10.  We start with twin yods that tell us that each of us, both collectively and individually, have TWO distinctly different decisions facing us as Mercury turns direct.  Here is that chart:

2015-02-Mercury-Direct-Yods (Basic)

In astrology, “two” sometimes means “two or more.”  So, you may have a series of important decisions.  One of these focuses on trust issues, and may focus on your spouse, partner, or another important significant other (Juno at apex).  The other decision involves health and healthcare (Hygeia at apex).  While these two COULD be…

The Double Yod Key (next chart) indicates, again, that we are facing a number of important decisions.  For many people individually, this will involve whether or not to maintain resolutions and whether or not to keep projects from last year or drop them.  Collectively, we are still working through the issues that began last August / September and continued through December.  Some of the ones that stand out the most involve conflicts between the populace and police authorities.  With the movement of Saturn into Sagittarius, a major change is afoot regarding these issues.

Astrology for Christmas Day 2014

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

Christmas Day is RELATIVELY quiet this year.  No heavy duty patterns are in play, or the one or two that arguably remain are breaking up.  Even so, let’s identify the issues we can find.  The first is the ongoing battle of trust versus betrayal (probably in family settings) with Jupiter (the leader of the gods; the party god and sometimes philanderer) and Juno (Jupiter’s sometimes betrayed wife) near each other in Leo and effectively opposed by Mars (anger, war) and the Moon (our deepest innermost desires and emotions):

We note that Moon / Mars can represent older children OR another couple (or both) in the drama that unfolds.

We see a secondary set of issues involving Hygeia (health and healthcare) in opposition to Vesta (traditions) and Pluto (death, secrets, and radical change).  Christmas squabbles seem to be the routine for many families; this year will not…

Yod of December 3/4 2014

Another interesting Yod happens December 3/4 of 2014.  Think of this one as “Part 2” of the November 29th Yod.  The same Rosetta and Hele patterns that applied on Saturday are still applicable here, and we will not duplicate that analysis here.

Based on the decision you made Saturday afternoon / evening, you can switch.  If you chose to stay in the same place, you can continue to do so or have another opportunity to switch to a different path.  And if you switched to a different path, you may consider returning to the old path (NOT recommended for most people).

Saturday November 29, 2014 Yod and more

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

The afternoon and evening of Saturday, November 29, 2014 is complex and contradictory.  The triggering event appears to be Moon conjunct Chiron (a once a month event that gradually changes character over a longer time window).  While we will cover a number of patterns in play, one particularly leaps out: a Yod involving Chiron, Juno, and the North Node:

2014-11-29 Chiron-Juno-Node Yod

We point this out because, post-Thanksgiving, this pattern tells us something obvious without astrology: some relationships, including marriages, will break up this Saturday.  Thanksgiving will be the “straw that broke the camel’s back,” but some people will not fully shut the door (or walk out the door) until Saturday afternoon (or possibly Saturday evening).  And, SOME of you NEED to do this.  (I am referring to anyone in an abusive situation.  In fact, if you have to leave on Friday while they are away at work, then don’t wait…

Thanksgiving Day of 2014 is marked by a diamond pattern that lasts most of the day.  Here is the simplified chart:

Diamond of 2014-11-27 Thanksgiving Day

We think this is a mostly benevolent pattern.  With Hygeia prominent and retrograde, health and healthcare issues will be at center stage.  This Thanksgiving many will be thinking about avoiding overeating and the perils to health that can bring.  Ceres and Venus (12 and 13 Sagittarius, respectively) will also emphasize this same theme.  The involvement of the nodes here tell us that some people will overdo it, and this may prompt a “wakeup call” for some.

Here is the same chart, but with an aspect grid and legends (Solar Fire “Beginners” chart):

Moon in Cancer in November of 2014: T-Squares and Grand Trines

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

The Moon in Cancer in November of 2014 creates a series of interesting (and contradictory!) patterns.  On one hand, Moon will join with Uranus and Pluto (in the well known and often discussed Uranus/Pluto square pattern) to form a T-Square.  On the other hand, the Moon will join with Mars and Neptune to form a Grand Trine (Grand Water Trine).  The first causes conflict and energizes people to “take action” while the second tends to be gentler and more relaxed (and sometimes an opportunity to make a quite a bit of money).

We we examine the T-Square:

November 10th T-Squares

Moments of greatest tension occur when (1) Moon opposes Pluto, (2) Moon squares Uranus, and (3) Moon conjoins Hygeia (an asteroid governing health and health issues).  If one counts the node (a point and not an actual body), then one might argue this is an (ongoing) grand cross.

Seeds For Meditation

wolf girl moon

Are you tired of the daily grind? Do you wonder what it would feel like to be your own boss, set your own schedule, and be in complete control of your future?

If so – you’re not alone.

Job dissatisfaction is a common issue these days. Just last year a report published by The Conference Board stated that more than half of all Americans report dissatisfaction with their jobs. With a challenging job market, more and more people stay stuck in careers that leave them feeling drained and unhappy, rather than pursuing a new life that nourishes them.

It’s ok to want change and to look for a better life.

For me, once I dared to dream that I could have a different life – In 1999, under the light of a Yule Super Moon, I launched my own Reiki practice and healing school. I soon had paying clients and students supplementing my income as an attorney … and, little by little I gained the confidence to fully transition away from my soul-crushing day job in the Law.

But how do you know it’s the right time to change?

Here are three little questions to consider that can make a huge impact …

1. How will you feel in five years if you’re still doing exactly what you’re doing now?
2. If you could paint a picture of a healthier, happier you – what would that look like?
3. What are three things you can do right now to get you closer to that new you?

Change begins with choice.
