Card of the Day – 4 of Pentacles – Thursday, December 20, 2018

Are you tired of adulting yet? Perhaps building a blanket fort in your family room is sounding more and more like a good idea. Putting a layer of protection between you and the outside world may be just what the doctor ordered. Try not to be totally obvious about it; perhaps you could claim to be doing it for the children.
Today’s 4 of Pentacles can actually manifest itself in many ways, some of which may include not spending your money all too frivolously during this holiday season. Venus retrograde is totally done, but you do still have a few days left before Mercury leaves shadow. Those new tech purchases may be better left for the post-holiday sales.
The chances of encountering an Ebenezer Scrooge type in your midst is entirely possible; let us hope this is not you. The 4 of Pentacles is a miserly card, and grinch-like people…

Astrology || Your wounds are your truth. Galactic Sage Sun and Chiron
Tara Greene,Tarot,Astrology,Psychic
Dece. 19 The major aspect of the day is the Sagittarius Sun on the Galactic Center at 27 degrees squaring Chiron the Wounded healer at 27 degrees PISCES.
“Your wounds are your truth”-Tara Greene
Sagittarius Sun on Galactic center squares Chiron in Pisces Dec. 19, 2018
This hard aspect will make us feel very vulnerable, wounded. This is not just our own vulnerability but a Cosmic vulnerability. I know, I’ve been feeling it for the last couple of days.
Chiron is the Constellation of Sagittarius as well making this aspect even more powerful. The Centaur squared by the Sun in His Sign amps up the energies especially with Jupiter in this sign which it rules too.
But there is great hope and even humor as we can laugh at our long journey to wholeness as the Sagittarius Sun aims for higher truths, optimism, faith and the intrinsic spiritual knowing that…

Lāʻau Lāpaʻau || Ashwagandha Beneficial for Symptom Exacerbation in Schizophrenia
Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs
Immune-inflammatory dysregulation has been linked with the exacerbation of symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. There is some evidence that adjunctive treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) may be beneficial; however, NSAIDs may cause adverse effects (AEs). Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera, Solanaceae) root extract has demonstrated immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activity. The purpose of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was to evaluate the effect of ashwagandha on recently exacerbated symptoms in patients with schizophrenia.
Outpatients (n=66, aged 18-75 years) with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) and Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview participated in this study conducted from April 2013 to July 2016 at the ambulatory clinics associated with the Comprehensive Recovery Services of Western Psychiatric Institute Clinic, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Other inclusion criteria were a Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total score ≥ 60…

Lāʻau Lāpaʻau || Artichoke Leaf Extract Improves Liver Disease Parameters in Patients with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the most common cause of chronic liver disease, is associated with metabolic syndrome. It can progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma; however, the progression is potentially reversible. The few therapeutic agents approved to treat the disease are not always successful. Some studies suggest that for people with the disease, dietary modifications of macronutrients and micronutrients and the use of phytochemicals can be beneficial. Artichoke (Cynara cardunculus Scolymus Group, Asteraceae) leaf extract (ALE) has shown potential as a lipid-lowering and hepatoprotective agent because of its component antioxidants, sesquiterpenes, and flavonoids.
These authors previously conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature on the lipid-lowering effects of artichoke extracts.1 They concluded that in patients with mild-to-moderate hypercholesterolemia, the consumption of artichoke extract significantly reduced total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides but did not affect high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). The effects appeared to…

Lāʻau Lāpaʻau || Food as Medicine: Pistachio (Pistacia vera, Anacardiaceae)
Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs
The pistachio (Pistacia vera) is the only commercially grown species in its genus, which belongs to the Anacardiaceae family. Members of the genus Pistacia are among the oldest flowering nut trees and are small to medium in size, and characterized by their ability to exude mastic (plant resin).1,2 Other economically important plants in Anacardiaceae include cashew (Anacardium occidentale) and mango (Mangifera indica).
Pistachio trees are temperate, deciduous trees adapted to the dry, hot, drought-prone climates of the Middle East.1,2,3 The pistachio tree can grow to a height of 10 meters (about 33 feet) and has pinnately compound leaves containing three to seven leaflets.3,4 The trees are dioecious; both male and female pistachio trees produce their own flowers.4 Female trees are wind-pollinated and produce green and brown flowers with no petals during the early summer.1,5 Female pistachio trees produce clusters of nuts…

Card of the Day – Page of Swords – Wednesday, December 19, 2018

Oh, how I have come to love the Pages! The Page of Swords is a restless sort, itching to go, go, go. They are all four of them Messengers, this one dealing very much with thoughts and curiosity. Following yesterday’s Ace of Swords, you may find yourself ready to strike, flooded with new ideas. When thoughts are racing, remember it is always best to keep a pen and paper handy. You do not want to forget any!
I find that the normal caution I would bring to this card does not feel to apply. It may do you good to break out of any rut you may have been in, throwing caution to the wind, and acting in an impetuous manner. Strike while the iron is hot, and just go for it!
See you here tomorrow!

Mindfulness || Why We Need to Take Pet Loss Seriously

Doug’s amateur soccer team had just lost its playoff game, and Doug needed a pick-me-up. He decided to stop by the local animal shelter on his way home because puppies always put a smile on his face. He was by no means looking to adopt an animal, but Delia, a five-month-old mutt, changed his mind. “I had her for 17 years,” Doug said, wiping away tears in our psychotherapy session. “I knew it would be rough when she died, but I had no idea… I was a total wreck. I cried for days. I couldn’t get any work done. And worst of all, I was too embarrassed about it to tell anyone. I spent days at work crying in private and muttering ‘allergies’ whenever someone glanced at my puffy eyes.” […]
