This past weekend, in Seattle, was Bruce Lee Weekend and thousands of martial artists and friends showed up to pay their respects and honor his memory. For me, I saw many pictures of Bruce Lee in our Reyes Family photo albums taken in the ’60s with my father-in-law, Master Aleju C. Reyes, of the original hard-style Kajukenbo school known as Reyes Kenpo Karate in California.

Nazirutha ~ The Song of The Soul, by Shankaracharya

shoreline birds

I am neither ego nor reason, I am neither mind nor thought,
I cannot be heard nor cast into words, nor by smell nor sight ever caught.

In light and wind I am not found, nor yet in earth and sky –
Consciousness and joy incarnate, Bliss of the Blissful am I.

I have no name, I have no life, I breathe no vital air,
No elements have moulded me, no bodily sheath is my lair:
I have no speech, no hands and feet, nor means of evolution –
Consciousness and joy am I, and Bliss in dissolution.

I cast aside hatred and passion, I conquered delusion and greed;
No touch of pride caressed me, so envy never did breed:
Beyond all faiths, past reach of wealth, past freedom, past desire
Consciousness and joy am I, and Bliss is my attire.

Virtue and vice, or pleasure and pain are not my heritage,
Nor sacred texts, nor offerings, nor prayer, nor pilgrimage:
I am neither food nor eating, nor yet the eater am I –
Consciousness and joy incarnate, Bliss of the Blissful am I.

I have no misgivings of death, no chasms of race divide me,
No parent ever called me child, no bond of birth ever tied me:
I am neither disciple nor master, I have no kin, no friend –
Consciousness and joy am I, and merging in Bliss is my end.

Neither knowable, knowledge, nor knower am I, formless is my
form, I dwell within the senses but they are not my home:
Ever serenely balanced, I am neither free nor bound –
Consciousness and joy am I, and Bliss is where I am found.

Health ~ An Introduction to Biodynamic Agriculture

biodynamic1
Based on “An Introduction To Biodynamic Agriculture”,
originally published in Stella Natura

What is Biodynamic Agriculture? In seeking an answer let us pose the further question: Can the Earth heal itself, or has the waning of the Earths vitality gone too far for this? No matter where our land is located, if we are observant we will see sure signs of illness in trees, in our cultivated plants, in the water, even in the weather.

Organic agriculture rightly wants to halt the devastation caused by humans; however, organic agriculture has no cure for the ailing Earth. From this the following question arises: What was the original source of vitality, and is it available now?

Biodynamics is a science of life-forces, a recognition of the basic principles at work in nature, and an approach to agriculture which takes these principles into account to bring about balance and healing. In a very real way, then, Biodynamics is an ongoing path of knowledge rather than an assemblage of methods and techniques.

biodynamic_affinities-scaled-500
Biodynamics is part of the work of Rudolf Steiner, known as anthroposophy – a new approach to science which integrates precise observation of natural phenomena, clear thinking, and knowledge of the spirit. It offers an account of the spiritual history of the Earth as a living being, and describes the evolution of the constitution of humanity and the kingdoms of nature. Some of the basic principles of Biodynamics are:

Broaden Our Perspective

Just as we need to look at the magnetic field of the whole earth to comprehend the compass, to understand plant life we must expand our view to include all that affects plant growth. No narrow microscopic view will suffice. Plants are utterly open to and formed by influences from the depths of the earth to the heights of the heavens. Therefore our considerations in agriculture must range more broadly than is generally assumed to be relevant.

Reading the Book of Nature

Everything in nature reveals something of its essential character in its form and gesture. Careful observations of nature – in shade and full sun, in wet and dry areas, on different soils, will yield a more fluid grasp of the elements. So eventually one learns to read the language of nature. And then one can be creative, bringing new emphasis and balance through specific actions.

Practitioners and experimenters over the last seventy years have added tremendously to the body of knowledge of Biodynamics.

Cosmic Rhythms

The light of the sun, moon, planets and stars reaches the plants in regular rhythms. Each contributes to the life, growth and form of the plant. By understanding the gesture and effect of each rhythm, we can time our ground preparation, sowing, cultivating and harvesting to the advantage of the crops we are raising. The Stella Natura calendar offers an introduction to this study.

The Life of the Soil

Biodynamics recognizes that soil itself is alive, and this vitality supports and affects the quality and health of the plants that grow in it. Therefore, one of Biodynamics fundamental efforts is to build up stable humus in our soil through composting.

A New View of Nutrition

We gain our physical strength from the process of breaking down the food we eat. The more vital our food, the more it stimulates our own activity. Thus, Biodynamic farmers and gardeners aim for quality, and not only quantity.

Chemical agriculture has developed short-cuts to quantity by adding soluble minerals to the soil. The plants take these up via water, thus by-passing their natural ability to seek from the soil what is needed for health, vitality and growth. The result is a deadened soil and artificially stimulated growth.

Biodynamics grows food with a strong connection to a healthy, living soil.

Medicine for the Earth: Biodynamic Preparations

Rudolf Steiner pointed out that a new science of cosmic influences would have to replace old, instinctive wisdom and superstition. Out of his own insight, he introduced what are known as biodynamic preparations.

Naturally occurring plant and animal materials are combined in specific recipes in certain seasons of the year and then placed in compost piles. These preparations bear concentrated forces within them and are used to organize the chaotic elements within the compost piles. When the process is complete, the resulting preparations are medicines for the Earth which draw new life forces from the cosmos.

Two of the preparations are used directly in the field, one on the earth before planting, to stimulate soil life, and one on the leaves of growing plants to enhance their capacity to receive the light. Effects of the preparations have been verified scientifically.

The Farm as the Basic Unit of Agriculture

In his Agriculture course, Rudolf Steiner posed the ideal of the self-contained farm – that there should be just the right number of animals to provide manure for fertility, and these animals should, in turn, be fed from the farm.

We can seek the essential gesture of such a farm also under other circumstances. It has to do with the preservation and recycling of the life-forces with which we are working. Vegetable waste, manure, leaves, food scraps, all contain precious vitality which can be held and put to use for building up the soil if they are handled wisely. Thus, composting is a key activity in Biodynamic work.

The farm is also a teacher, and provides the educational opportunity to imitate natures wise self-sufficiency within a limited area. Some have also successfully created farms through the association of several parcels of non-contiguous land.

Economics Based on Knowledge of the Job

Steiner emphasized the absurdity of agricultural economics determined by people who have never actually raised crops or managed a farm.

A new approach to this situation has been developed which brings about the association of producers and consumers for their mutual benefit. The Community Supported Agriculture movement was born in the Biodynamic movement and is spreading rapidly. Gardens or farms gather around them a circle of supporters who agree in advance to meet the financial needs of the enterprise and its workers, and these supporters each receive a share of the produce as the season progresses. Thus consumers become connected with the real needs of the Earth, the farm and the Community; they rejoice in rich harvests, and remain faithful under adverse circumstances.

Seeds for Meditation ~ “The Place That is Free of Suffering,” by Eckhart Tolle

water veilThe world promises fulfillment somewhere in time, and there is a continuous striving toward that fulfillment in time. Many times people feel, “Yes, now I have arrived,” and then they realize that, no, they haven’t arrived, and then the striving continues. It is expressed beautifully in A Course in Miracles, where it says that the dictum of the ego is “Seek but do not find.” People look to the future for salvation, but the future never arrives. So ultimately, suffering arises through not finding.

And that is the beginning of an awakening-when the realization dawns that “Perhaps this is not the way. Perhaps I will never get to where I am striving to reach; perhaps it’s not in the future at all.” After having been lost in the world, suddenly, through the pressure of suffering, the realization comes that the answers may not be found out there in worldly attainment and in the future. That’s an important point for many people to reach. That sense of deep crisis — when the world as they have known it, and the sense of self that they have known that is identified with the world, become meaningless.

That happened to me. I was just that close to suicide and then something else happened-a death of the sense of self that lived through identifications, identifications with my story, things around me, the world. Something arose at that moment that was a sense of deep and intense stillness and aliveness, beingness. I later called it “presence.” I realized that beyond words, that is who I am. But this realization wasn’t a mental process. I realized that that vibrantly alive, deep stillness is who I am. Years later, I called that stillness “pure consciousness,” whereas everything else is the conditioned consciousness. The human mind is the conditioned consciousness that has taken form as thought. The conditioned consciousness is the whole world that is created by the conditioned mind. Everything is our conditioned consciousness; even objects are. Conditioned consciousness has taken birth as form and then that becomes the world.

To be lost in the conditioned seems to be necessary for humans. It seems to be part of their path to be lost in the world, to be lost in the mind, which is the conditioned consciousness. Then, due to the suffering that arises out of being lost, one finds the unconditioned as oneself. And that is why we need the world to transcend the world. So I’m infinitely grateful for having been lost. The purpose of the world is for you to be lost in it, ultimately. The purpose of the world is for you to suffer, to create the suffering that seems to be what is needed for the awakening to happen. And then once the awakening happens, with it comes the realization that suffering is unnecessary now. You have reached the end of suffering because you have transcended the world. It is the place that is free of suffering.

Full Moon of October 8th (October 2014 Full Moon)

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

Here is the astrological chart for the upcoming Full Moon of October 8th, set in Plano TX:

Full Moon October 2014 (Basic)

We see the Moon in Aries opposing the Sun in Libra, which is what we expect at this time of year.  Several things make this FM interesting.  First of all, Pluto in Capricorn squares it, which greatly heightens the tension.  Some of the people born at this time will be quite remarkable, judges, or generals, or maybe serial killers.  If you use asteroids in your interpretations, then we see Hygeia (healthcare and health issues) in Cancer in opposition to Pluto in Capricorn.  I would not be surprised to see HMO’s or some similar kind of healthcare issue pop up in the news.  (We already have the Ebola discussion, but this involves something financial, such as why Big Pharma has not funded much (any?) research on developing a vaccine for Ebola.)

Nazirutha ~ Matthaei Authenticum ~ The True Gospel of Matthew

St. Matthew
St. Matthew

The Gospel of the Ebionites is one of the early Jewish-Christian Gospels, sharing an affinity with the Gospel of the Hebrews and the Gospel of the Nazoraeans.

Jerome names it as being the same as the Gospel of the Hebrews and states that most ancient Biblical scholars called it “Matthaei Authenticum” or the“True Gospel of Matthew”.

It survives today only as fragments in quotations, and so it is difficult to tell if it is an independent text, or a slight variation on the others. It was used by the Ebionite community during the time of the early church.

The Ebionite Community

At the beginning of the Christian era, Jewish Christian communities flourished throughout the Holy Land. The Ebionites were thought to be an offshoot of theNazarenes. Their center was located east of the Jordan river near where John the Baptist had preached.

The origin of the name Ebionite (or Ebionaean) is debated. Tertullian, Irenaeus, Hippolytus of Rome, Epiphanius, and Jerome ascribed the movement to a heretic named Ebion or Hebion. Others claim the name Ebionite means “poor one”, not derived from a person, but rather from the Beatitudes of Matthew 5:3.

While some note they rejected material wealth, Eusebius and Origen both claimed the Ebionites’ appellation was a term of derision indicating a poverty in intellect, rather than material possessions.

Conflict grew between them and other Christians when the Ebionites failed to embrace the Church doctrines of chastity or celibacy as well as the concept of the Virgin birth. They believed Jesus was begotten of God at the time of his baptism.

Conflict also grew over the issue of the Mosaic law which the Ebionites believed remained in full force. They believed that by fulfilling the law, all are able to become Christs.

They are said to have rejected Paul’s teachings and used only one Gospel, the Gospel of the Ebionites.

They also believed John the Baptist and Jesus as being vegetarians, and rendering him in the adoptionist form. Many of these differences are found in subtle variants of Greek words, such as a meal of egkris (cake), rather than akris (locusts) as used in the later Synoptic Gospels

Epiphanius, whose writing is the main source for finding fragments of the Gospel of the Ebionites, emphasises that the Nazoraeans were considered part of the Christian orthodoxy, whereas the Ebionites were considered heretics, and so there may have been theological and doctrinal differences between the two gospels, possibly over the Virgin Birth which the Ebionites rejected.

Epiphanius considered the Ebionite text to have been mutilated due to textual differences, the lack of a genealogy and nativity story in the Gospel of Matthew – which may indicate that the Ebionites rejected it, or may also be a testimony to an earlier, nativity free, version of Matthew, on which the Ebionite Gospel is based.

Matthaei Authenticum
The Ebionites are said to have used the Gospel of the Hebrews written by the Apostle Matthew.

Epiphanius stated that the Ebionites accepted only Matthew’s Gospel and they used it alone. They called it the Gospel of the Hebrews, for only Matthew expounded and declared the gospel in Hebrew using Hebrew letters.

Irenaeus and Eusebius also confirmed that the Ebionites used only the Gospel of the Hebrews written by Matthew.

Because of differences in Jesus’ baptism account, some modern Biblical scholars have argued that the Gospel of the Hebrews and the Gospel of the Ebionites were two different gospels. However, since only the Gospel of the Hebrews appears in Early Christian catalogues and because Jerome links the Ebionites with the Nazarenes in their use of the Gospel of the Hebrews, this contention is rendered doubtful.

The Gospel of the Ebionites

The Gospel of the Ebionites is a lost text. A few fragments survive in the form of quotations from the Church Father Epiphanius. Below is the assembled textual fragments of the Gospel used by the Ebionites, the Matthaei Authenticum, the True Gospel of Matthew.

First Fragment
It came to pass in the days of Herod, King of Judaea under the high priest Caiaphas, that John came and baptized with the baptism of repentance in the river Jordan; he is said to be from the tribe of Aaron and a son of Zacharias the priest and of Elizabeth and all went out to him.

Second Fragment
And it came to pass when John baptized, that the Pharisees came to him and were baptized, and all Jerusalem also. He had a garment of camels’ hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins. And his food was wild honey, which tasted like manna, formed like cakes of oil.

Third Fragment
The people having been baptized, Jesus came also, and was baptized by John. And as he came out of the water the heavens opened, and he saw the Holy Spirit descending under the form of a dove, and entering into him. And a voice was heard from heaven: “Thou art my beloved Son, and in thee am I well pleased. And again: “This day have I begotten thee.” And suddenly shone a great light in that place. And John seeing him, said, “Who art thou, Lord?” Then a voice was heard from heaven: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Thereat John fell at his feet and said: “I pray thee, Lord, baptize me.” But he would not, saying “Suffer it, for so it behoveth that all should be accomplished.”

Fourth Fragment
[Matthew said] “And there was a man named Jesus, and he was about thirty years old; he has chosen us. And He came into Capernaum and entered into the house of Simon, surnamed Peter, and He opened His mouth and said, ‘As I walked by the sea of Tiberias, I chose John and James, the sons of Zebedee, and Simon and Andrew and Thaddaeus and Simon Zelotes, and Judas Isariot; thee also, Matthew, when thou wast sitting at the receipt of custom, did I call and thou didst follow me. According to my intention ye shall be twelve apostles for a testimony unto Israel.’

Fifth Fragment
[Jesus was told] “Behold thy mother and thy brethren stand without.”

[He said] “Who is my mother and who are my brethren?” And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples and said: “These are my brethren and my mother and sisters, which do the will of my Father.”

Sixth Fragment
[Jesus said] “I am come to abolish the sacrifices: if ye cease not from sacrificing, the wrath (of God) will not cease from weighing upon you.”

Seventh Fragment
[The disiples said,] “Where wilt Thou that we prepare for Thee to eat the Passover?” To which He replied: “I have no desire to eat the flesh of this Paschal Lamb with you.”

All translations are from Bernhard Pick, Paralipomena: Remains of Gospels and Sayings of Christ(Chicago, 1908), pp. 16-18. The sequence of fragments here follows Wilhelm Schneemelcher, New Testament Apocrypha, revised edition (Westminster, 1991) volume 1, pp. 169-170. Pick’s arrangement is virtually identical.

Neptune remains in sensitive, intuitive Pisces for the foreseeable future, and helps us gradually develop more empathy, compassion, and build understanding, in a wide variety of ways, but also indicates a need to remain realistic.

Ha’awina Na Uhane Aloha ~ Na Mahalo Elima (The 5 Thank-You’s)

mahalo-james-templeTwo thoughts can’t occupy the same space and your emotions follow your thoughts. Use this rule to support your efforts to be in Pono. Thank Na Kupuna for five things present in your life to shift your thoughts and heart into Gratitude to be Pono again.  Do this exercise once daily, preferably in the morning, and any time you find the situation you’re in perplexing, irritating, annoying, etc.  You must name five different things every time you do this exercise … so it is most effective if you practice this exercise often.  Not a bad way to work on Knowing Thyself.

Mahalo ~ Gratitude, Appreciation

Ma Ha – Magnifying the “Breath of God”
halo – spreading the “Breath of God”, Thank You, Gratefulness,
lo – magnifying the “Ha”.

I CHING ~ The Week of October 6, 2014

Guai (Deciding/Parting)

Above:    Dui             Responsive, free, penetration
Below:    Qian/Gan    Enduring Spirit power

The Wisdom:

Breakthrough;
No compromise.
As you part from the past
You are in a time of creative transformation.

Your struggle against negativity is ending, and you and your projects are now favored. Resist the temptation to take the path of retribution to what or who has been getting in the way of completion or joy, all the while remembering that teachers come in strange disguises, shapes, and forms. Though it may feel satisfying in the short term to strike out with words or actions against who or what has been holding back your progress, know that what you do now and how you behave is setting the pattern for your personal and our collective future. If you were to respond with spite or negativity, this would reinforce an energetic pattern that would once again make you vulnerable to the very same kind of darkness you are defeating. The decision to part from the past must be resolute, with no doubts and no compromise. If there are a few bad cells left behind after a cancer has been excised, the cancer will come back and grow with the vengeance of a defeated enemy that has found strength in retreat. This is the time to speak from your heart to your tribe and loved ones, letting them know in no uncertain terms that you have decided that you will no longer allow any obstacles to block the way toward the greater good—for you, for the ones you care for and love, and for all of us. It is truly a don’t f— with me time. Take the role of service to this ideal as a Samurai warrior defending his or her enlightened master; in this case the master is you, your beloveds, and your tribe. State your intention and then calmly and dispassionately act on it. By speaking out, you will be garnering strength from the universe and from Spirit. By speaking your truth, the laws of attraction say you will become the attractor. Spirit will be pleased at your resoluteness in this situation, and this signaling will bring immense, clarifying energy to you.

Speak and demonstrate in your relationships that you have decided to overcome all obstacles that do not allow love and harmony to flourish. With the intention to love with an open heart, you will find great strength; this will allow you to, at last, love and be loved without the restrictions of ego, judgment or jealousy. This will also eviscerate any notions that you are not good enough or deserving of the love you envision and deserve. With calmness and clear direction, make your plans and execute them. That is what is called for now by the arrival of this hexagram.

These surely are powerful times. Within the present galactic shift to higher frequencies that we are collectively experiencing, all ideas, movements, and philosophies are intensified. With these highly tuned frequencies of the planetary alignment that are accessible to all, you can accomplish incredibly powerful and beautiful things by moving without fear or doubt toward positivity. We have been waiting for this moment and it has arrived, just in the nick of time, to be used by us to achieve momentous goals as we join with one another in community for the greater planetary good.

If, in this time shift, if you were to act from ego and attempt to use this energy blast to assume control or to change or bring injustice to another, you would do great harm—harm to yourself for sure, but you would also do harm to the delicate flowering of a new age that is opening before us. We are moving toward a golden age of the highest and brightest potential humans have ever known. Our individual thoughts and actions are now magnified and reverberate throughout the global cosmic matrix* that has been activated by the recent galactic shift.

You can dance in the dark no longer, nor can you form secret pacts with yourself or others to promote or be of service to greed or personal gain. If you do make a decision or choice in this direction, it will backfire on you, and all that you have manifested thus far will be tainted and toxic; you will be made powerless and go into a deep, dark depression. At this time, negative actions will reverberate through a lifetime—this lifetime and future ones; that is how powerful these times and these energies are. So be cautious and stay awake!

With this breakthrough, you now have renewed strength and a window of opportunity to set things straight, whether in business, love, or on your personal path of spiritual evolution. The way you handle this arriving success and the abundance it brings will set the tone for the future. This is a time to express your resolve and manifest your greatest strength, which is your compassion, kindness, and generosity.

Stand firm now and act decisively; you have the strength to make battles short and focused. Keep your emotions out of it. Know that any retribution will weaken you and rob you of your ability to enjoy and sustain your success. Stay out of others’ business and don’t fall to the level of gossip or disrespect in your triumphs. Do not disparage your opponents in their defeat. Forgive them; they know not what they do. And fully and most importantly, forgive yourself for any part you may have played in the negative actions of the past. In this way you truly leave the past behind.

Be dignified and compassionate as you do the work to leave old, negative habits and patterns behind. It is with these actions that you will rise to new heights of self-love and self-respect. From that pinnacle you will find and attract love and abundance in ways you have desired and have previously held only in your imagination. This is a time of creative transformation, and with intention from your loving heart you will manifest in calmness and with grace. In this way your transformation will, in itself, be without effort. Cool, eh?

Regarding your business and personal relationships, in this coming golden age there are wondrous opportunities that will be coming your way. In your inner journey, what has been holding you back emotionally has been weakened through your diligent work, as, through some fear and trepidation, you have brought your own shadow self into the light. These openings, this breakthrough, is bringing with it great strength to defeat the inner monsters of self-judgment and loathing that have previously held you back.

Take note that Guai comes with a caveat: even in times of enlightenment, darkness, in the form of the ego’s desires, hides just around the corner to tempt you; don’t go for it! As you move forward, do not compromise your beliefs. This would disempower you on your journey toward the resurrection and building of your dreams and plans that previously may have hit a wall of obstruction.

Your intuitive forces are now in their most available light and can be accessed and trusted, as it is you and only you that can bring about the global change we are all envisioning. Speak openly of a new paradigm. Take these coming days to celebrate life and the shift of the ages that is happening now. See it as your personal magic carpet, which will take you to the heights of love, accomplishment, service to others, and shared abundance. Do consider service now—find joy in serving others with whatever you have at hand. In this way you can lift your tribe up into the light you are seeing and feeling now. By empowering others, you are, with pure intention, empowering yourself.

Be of love these days. Smile to others at work, in your community, in class, on the street, as you drive past them on life’s highway. Corny as it may sound, it is the highway of love, this life. We just need to check our ego at the door, clear the way for others, and let it be.

Peace and blessings,

Bliss Balls ~ If you want info about this challenge and the shopping list, click on the image.

Bliss balls are taking the health food world by storm lately, and most health food nuts have their own special recipe. While you may pay a premium price for one of these in stores or at your local health food restaurant, making them at home will not only save you money but will also give you an opportunity to create your own unique flavour combinations.

This is a super basic recipe that lends itself well to experimentation. Try adding in fun things like chopped dried fruits, other nuts, different extracts, citrus zests or even switching up the nut butters! Play around and have fun 🙂

Raw Bliss Balls (Makes 4-6 balls – can be frozen for 3-4 months)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup raw nut butter of choice
  • 2 tbsp coconut butter
  • 2 tbsp dried shredded coconut
  • 2 tbsp chopped hazel nuts
  • 6 medjool dates, pitted and chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla powder or extract
  • pinch sea salt
  • any add ins you like  – chocolate chips, dried cranberries, raisins, carob chips etc.

Directions:

1. Blend dates and nut butter in a food processor or blender until smooth.

2. Transfer date and nut butter mixture to a bowl. Add remaining ingredients and combine with your hands. Your mixture should now form balls. If it is too crumbly add more nut butter. If it is too loose add more shredded coconut.

3. Form into 1 inch balls. Refrigerate until set. Enjoy!
