DAILY CHABAD ~ Beyond Sincerity

dawn
Sincerity is not enough. You have to do the right thing.

Why is it this way? Why can’t we be judged by our intentions alone?

So that we will know that we are small, and truth is very large. It is truth that stands at the center, and we that orbit about it.

Tanya, chapter 38.

HA’AWINA NA ‘OLELO NO’EAU …

kiho alu playerHe la nani keia la, i hoakahi kahi ke aloha.  E loa ke ola he nani no ia. Kai ana ke aloha no na po e.  Mahalo ke Akua hoʻohoihoi me ko’u ola pomaika’i na mea pau.

Translation: Today is a beautiful day, be one in love. May life be long because Life is a good thing. Go forth and spread the aloha. Thank you God. I am pleased with my life, that all things are blessed.

This is an ancient proverb from the ‘Olelo no’eau. This proverb is about your direction in life. If you have no direction in your life, you will get nowhere … or, if you are going nowhere, you are definitely guaranteed to get there. It’s good to have and find your purpose in life: to have dreams and goals. God put you here for a reason and a season. Some may be granted longer life than others, but it is not for us to question when God calls us home. While we are here on this side of the Veil, we need to give of ourselves to others and help those in need. Don’t just sit there and allow life to fade away. I know we get tangled in life’s trials, but don’t let negativity suck the life from you. Life is short, so make it count. Life is good, so please please live it to the fullest everyday, not just the length but the breadth of it, too.

DAILY CHABAD ~ Inside Workers

see with your heartWhen you look at a human being, you see his hands working, his feet walking, his mouth talking. You don’t see his heart, his brain, his lungs and kidneys. They work quietly, inside. But they are the essential organs of life.

The world, too, has hands and feet—those who are making the news, moving things around, shaking things up.

The heart, the inner organs, they are those who work quietly from the inside, those unnoticed, those who do a simple act of kindness with no thought of reward.

HA’AWINA NA UHANE ALOHA ~ Hewa (guilt, sin)

along the pathThere is really no such concept as “sin” in the Hawaiian paradigm.  However, there is “guilt”, as in mistake, and the “sin” is that feeling creates pilikia-producing choice to return to the past.  It is that heartspace that keeps you from being Pono in the moment.  Realize the lesson of past experience.  It’s never too late to learn; no expiration date on awareness.  Choose Pono-based behavior.

Recipe ~ Ella’s Sweet Potato Brownies

sweet potato brownies-850x692

“Sweet potatoes are incredible: they’re bursting with nutritional goodness with all their antioxidants, and their anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being awesome blood sugar-regulators. Each cup contains an almost unrivaled amount of vitamin A, with more than four times your daily need of this antioxidant boosting vitamin, which is essential for strengthening your body’s immunity against infection.

Their bright color also doses you up on anti-inflammatories which have been shown to reduce inflammation on the brain and nerve tissue. Each serving also contains lots of wonderful fibre, which gives each brownies a ‘slow burning’ quality, meaning their energy is used up much more slowly than low-fibre carbohydrates – like normal brownies, so you’ll be fuller, more energized and more satisfied for way longer! So if you needed an excuse to eat brownies then here it is! They’re healthy!

Don’t forget that raw cacao is also a superfood as it is such an insanely rich source of antioxidants, one of the best in the world, as well as being packed with a number of other beneficial nutrients: manganese, which helps oxygenate the blood; magnesium, which helps maintain healthy bodily nerves, muscles and bones; and sulphur, which builds strong nails and hair, and promotes beautiful skin.” -Ella Woodward

Ingredients

Makes 10 brownies

  • 2 medium to large sweet potatoes
  • 2/3 of a cup of ground almonds
  • 1/2 a cup of buckwheat flour (brown rice flour will also work)
  • 14 medjool dates
  • 4 tablespoons of raw cacao
  • 3 tablespoons of pure maple syrup
  • a pinch of salt

Preparation

1. Start by pre-heating the oven to 350ºF, then peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them into chunks and place into a steamer for about twenty minutes, until they become really soft.

2. Once they are perfectly soft and beginning to fall apart remove them and add them to a food processor with the pitted dates – this will form one of the sweetest, creamiest, most delicious mixes ever!

3. Put the remaining ingredients into a bowl, before mixing in the sweet potato date combination. Stir well.

4. Place into a lined baking dish and cook for about twenty minutes, until you can pierce the brownie cake with a fork bringing it out dry. Remove the tray and allow it to cool for about ten minutes – this is really important as it needs this time to stick together! Remove the brownies from the tray, leaving it another few minutes before cutting them into squares – then dig in and enjoy!

A 2014 Time Map of Septiles (and some discussion of the Astrology of the Ebola Outbreak)

Grandtrines's avatarGrandtrines

Since we are in a massively creative (as well as massively dangerous!) period, I thought I would deviate from my recent tendency to focus on New Moons, Full Moons, Mercury Retrogrades and such similar events.  Using Solar Fire 8 (with some email guidance from Madalyn Hillis-Dineen of Astrolabe), I decided to explore some higher order aspects.  What follows is a “time map” of outer planet septiles (and similar aspects such as tri-septiles) for the next 12 months (starting Oct 1, 2014).

Septile aspects (and variants) are indicative of periods of “karma” or “reaping what you have sown.”  (However, if you are a seamstress, it might be a case of “ripping what you have sewn.”)  Outer planets (or “generational planets”) tend to affect “all” (or “most”) of us, with some more directly (and intensely) affected than others.  Keep an eye out and let me know if any of these dates…

Transmutation

digital flower1I give myself up to the violet flame:
it will renew the strength within me.

I send only angels …

To you that hurt me
working together
with conscious effort;

And to you who know no better,
you vampires and leeches,
and thieves of dreams;

And to you, dear friend,

because you are here
only when I am bad;
does the bright light of perfect insight threaten you?
The light that is always absent within you?
You, cold as a surgeon’s steel,
removed and incomprehensible;

And to all, because you, with
your razor tongues, cut out my soul;
and to those who think they know me …
to ex-lovers because you weren’t the only one,
to my mother eager to control an inaccessible father,
to all of you that made me cry;

And especially to you,
those sharks alike,
excuses for people,

because you wanted
to drag me into your abyss,
always enraged by the blood-smell of
the one who tries;

And to you, whose every step to the place
where nothing is hidden,
who swim like salmon struggling upstream to their destination:

And to all of you,

of Cosmology,

the Universe of stars
that are only a part of you,

Milky way, muscle inflammation,
black hole vacuum around the heart.

Thank you!

Paradigm Shift ~ The Man In The Mirror

man-in-the-mirrorWhen you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself.

For it isn’t a man’s father, mother or wife
Whose judgment upon him must pass,
The fellow whose verdict counts most in his life,
Is the man staring back from the glass

He’s the fellow to please, never mind the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

Seeds for Meditation ~ Lessons from Geese

geese1034-800Fact:
As each goose flaps it’s wings, it creates uplift for the bird following.
By flying in a ‘V’ formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if the bird flew alone

Lesson:
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are traveling quicker and easier, because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

Fact:
Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.

Lesson:
If people have as much sense as geese, they will stay in formation with those who are headed where we want to go and be willing to accept their help as well as give help to others.

Fact:
When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies the point position.

Lesson:
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership with people as, with geese, we are interdependent on each other.

Fact:
The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage those
up front to keep their speed.

Lesson:
People need to make sure honking from behind is
encouraging – and not something else.

Fact:
When a goose becomes sick or wounded, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then they launch out on their own to try and catch up with their flock or they join another formation.

Lesson:
If people have as much sense as geese, they too will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when they are strong.

Recipe ~ Chinese Orange Chicken

orange-chicken-recipeOrange Chicken; A good orange chicken should have just that little bit of sweetness and tangyness to it without being completely overpowering. It should also have that beautiful, slightly sticky gloss and marinade that perfectly coats the chicken. Most orange chicken recipes will have you fry the chicken first to get it nice and crispy, but if you want to make this dish healthier, skip the breading and the frying. Cook the chicken pieces in a skillet, then pour the sauce over and let the chicken and sauce boil until you get that perfect gloss.  If you want to be even healthier, skip using chicken altogether and opt for Seitan vegetarian protein, which can be cut up like chicken and prepared per the recipe with the addition of vegetarian chicken boulion, or by adding Vegan “Chickin” pieces that you will find in your local grocery store’s frozen foods section under “healthy foods.”

Ingredients

MARINADE

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground or grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

THE REST

  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless chicken breasts cut into 1″ chunks
  • 1 cup and 2 tablespoons cornstarch, divided
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Make the marinade: whisk together chicken broth, orange juice, honey, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, orange zest, sriracha, ginger, and white pepper in a bowl.
  2. In a large zipper-lock bag or lage bowl, combine the chicken and 2/3 cup of the marinade. Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes, turning the bag occasionally. Drain the chicken from the marinade and discard the marinade.
  3. Heat the remaining mardinade in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring the marinade to a boil. Stir together 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water, then stir that into the marinade. Cook, stirring frequently, until thickened (about 1-2 minutes. Keep warm.
  4. One at a time, dip the chicken into the beaten eggs, then dredge in the remaining 1 cup cornstarch, pressing in to coat.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan. In batches, add the chicken and fry until golden brown and cooked through (about 1-2 minutes). Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate, then discard the excess oil. Serve the chicken immediately, tossed with the marinade and garnished with sesame seeds.
  6. Enjoy!

10 Surprisingly Healthy Foods Your Grandparents Ate That You Should Too

When was the last time you enjoyed fresh homemade baked bread?
When was the last time you enjoyed fresh homemade baked bread?

In generations prior, our grandparents were consuming foods that were healthier than the pesticide ridden, genetically modified and hormone injected food that is rampant today. Before big box food companies became money hungry and clever, there was a plethora of foods being distributed that were pure and non manipulated.

To increase their profit margin, increase the longevity of produce lasting and increase the size of harvests, many companies today have resorted to methods like using heavy pesticides and genetically modifying plants to make their crops more resistant to bugs and more resilient against the elements. In other words, the focus shifting from creating healthful, quality foods to creating adulterated foods that endanger the health of the masses.

Over the years, the nutritional villain has been deemed many different things; two of which are fat and sugar. This was simply a way to direct attention away from the actual issue, which is the quality of our food. Merely all whole foods can be eaten in moderation with no health risks.

However, eating too much of foods that are pumped full of chemicals is the true health detriment. Our grandparents may have seemingly indulged too much; but the contrary is true. Our bodies need fat and sugar as two of the crucial macronutrients in our diets.

Thus, they might have eaten meals that have a significant fat and/or sugar intake; but their bodies were able to remain balanced and healthy because the pesticides, GMO’s and hormones from animal products were not an issue.
